Seriously, can't find anything but heavy dramas and incredibly stupid comedies. I'm almost ready to resort to romantic comedy. Talk me down, here. My spouse may never forgive me if I try to go that route....
Nothing very dated. Not in an old movies/80's movies mood. 70's are ok, if it's a good movie.

Nothing very dated. Not in an old movies/80's movies mood. 70's are ok, if it's a good movie.
I'm probably not the one to ask cause I love stupid comedies. (Disclaimer: the modern stupid comedies don't qualify, I'm talking about Airplane, Men in Tights, inter alia.)
However, if you're not opposed to cartoons, Hoodwinked is hilarious. It even had my English professor in-laws rolling.

Apparently there was a 2004 remake of The Goodbye Girl with Jeff Daniels. I like Jeff Daniels, but Escanaba in da Moonlight is more my speed. Too bad we've over-watched that lil gem.

Yeah, to clarify, by "stupid" I mean "embarrassingly bad, irritating, and pointless flicks that seem to think that enough bodily function humor will overcome all deficiencies." In my experience, not even the best bodily function joke can rescue a truly bad movie. Funny, silly, and insubstantial is what I'm going for.

Ah, then we have the same definition of bad movies.
My wife thinks I like bad movies cause I love things like Tremors, Army of Darkness, The Frighteners, and most things by Mel Brooks.
Incidentally, the Frighteners is a funny, cheesy movie. (Peter Jackson directed, if I remember correctly.)

When in doubt, go with Jackie Chan. Shanghai Noon is always a good watch.
Also, the Jackass series? Very underrated!

The 80s ban takes out The Blues Brothers and They Live, not to mention Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid. The old movies ban takes out His Girl Friday (which is epic). And The Awful Truth.
I figure you're left with cartoon movies, Zardoz, and various James Bond films. And the Pink Panther series.

Blues Brothers is a CLEAR exception to the 80's ban. Some movies are just timeless.

While the other movies are exceptionally quotable and definitely have theirs moments, the only one I find really watchable is Life of Brian.

I'm going to open it up a smidge and run with "upbeat" movies, some of which are obvious LOL comedies, others which leave you on an high note, but may not be belly-laughers. A lot of these are classics my mom introduced me to as a kid.

OK, that's all I can think of, for now.
Looking back, I can kinda see my thought process. Like a spastic Jack Russell Terrier determined to be upbeat. It sort of makes sense, except for The Mummy>>Amazing Grace. That one, I can;t explain.

As a kid, I had a pathological fear of mummies and zombies, and they still bug me. Shaun of the Dead was funny, but once was enough. My father was an undertaker for a while and when we stopped by his workplace he enjoyed making funny funny jokes about all the odd random noises in the building and how many bodies were in the cooler, or at least were supposed to be the cooler. We also got the graphic tales of the suicides and the random homeless guys found in Detroit abandoned warehouses when the smell started wafting over to the nearest populated block. Didn't like animated dead people after that. =)
The kid ones are frustrating. We want to watch them with the kids, but the four year old is a just a tad young yet for many of them and loses interest.
Lots of possiblities. I'd forgotten about Searching for Bobby Fischer. Haven't seen that one in years. Quite a few I've never seen, and quite a few I could definitely rewatch.
