Title: Taking "because you suck and we hate you" to another level

Quote
The company has pledged no longer to sell arms into warzones or to countries that violate corruption and democracy standards, including Saudi Arabia, Israel, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Malaysia, Indonesia, or any African countries.

So basically no guns for Semites or Africans (and some Asians).  Racist?

Quote
Heckler & Koch – sometimes called Germany’s deadliest company by activists – said it would now sell only to “green countries,” which it defined according to three criteria: membership of Nato or “Nato-equivalent” (Japan, Switzerland, Australia and New Zealand); Transparency International’s corruption perceptions index; and the Economist Intelligence Unit’s democracy index.

... and they're instituting a purity test for potential customers.

Don't worry, they've been churning out enough G3s for the past few decades to keep the rabble well armed for years to come.  ;/

Their primary rifle is used by Germany and Spain as their primary weapons, plus a bunch of cops and a couple of special forces groups. Typically not the kind of entities involved in prolonged real conflicts. They're also very expensive. As other stated, the last rifle used to fight wars they made was the G3, 7 million built. It is important to note that H&K didn't design the G3, it's a modified French CETME design. They originally wanted the FAL, but FN didn't want to give up the rights and Germany wanted their rifles built locally under license.

Now that I think of it... I don't think H&K ever designed a rifle that was actually widely used in war or by real militaries. This declaration isn't extremely meaningful, or important.

If FN Herstal made the same announcement, that'd be a different story. They make actual weapons of wars. MAG (M240) is used in the hundreds of thousands by dozens of militaries. The Minimi (M249) is also widely used. They widely build the M2, which is probably the most widely produced heavy machine gun on the planet. Certainly the longest running heavy MG.

Why a gun company, even a German one, would take to meaningless virtue signaling is beyond my comprehension. Political pressure, maybe?

Because you suck and we hate you.

It's H und K. Of COURSE they will choose meaningless virtue signaling. That's enough for them.

I wouldn't be surprised if their contract is soon up for renewal and it was a move to better endear them to the current kraut government. Sort of how our gov does preference points for contracts. There are plenty of small businesses on GSA where they may be owned by a husband and wife, but the wife is listed as the owner, CEO, etc.

I guess that thesis would depend on how much business they currently do with those entities that are now persona non grata. If they weren't doing (much) business with them anyway, it could be a political/business move. If they're going to lose millions of dollars with their new philosophy, it could be something else.

Because "Jews suck and we hate them" apparently.

Smooth move for a German company.   ;/

It's ok, though. You can hate Jews in Germany all you want so long as you say it's "Zionism" that you hate. (Or if you are a Muslim, but that's a given since none of the other rules and laws of Germany apply to them anyway.)

Considering that HK is routinely limited in what it can sell here in the U.S. to the private commercial market by the Bundesregierung, even if they were to have a separate U.S. incorporation and produce those firearms here in the U.S.... I'd say that's a "yes".

I'm not even sure if it's really the "normal" confluence of Leftism, PCism, and being anti-gun going on between Germany and HK. After all, I don't think anyone would peg Belgium as a paragon of Right wing or Libertarian thought... However, they are still happy to see FN succeed with all the un-PC firearms, PS90s, Semi-Auto M249s, Five-Se7ens etc. they can sell to the U.S. Civilian market. They at least seem to have the more pragmatic approach to European Leftism/Socialism, that a smart parasite wants a healthy host....

I get the impression, that certain German institutions and companies etc. get selected as proxy whipping-boys for the continuing German self-flagellation over Nazism. And that the selection process is either an emotive process and not rational, or it's just hard to understand the criteria for who gets to be the proxy-Nazis in modern day Germany if you're not born and raised German...

I really like the idea of having an HK MP5SD as a home defense weapon - and here in TX, it's at least a theoretical possibility to legally own one - if you're willing to pay well into five figures and do the paperwork for a pre-1986 example.

But otherwise, I've had a negative view of HK ever since I had a chance to handle one of their old HK4 pistols (a crappy stamped metal multi caliber knockoff of Mauser's HSc) with a broken frame.

More recent HK firearms I've checked out haven't changed my overall negative opinion.
