Beto is now candidate 12,324 in the dem primaries. The only reason this matters to me is that I want to insert an APS HRT into Texas and rescue his poor dog.

"Beto" - just another instance of conservatives/Republicans (in the conservative commentariat, and elsewhere) refusing to understand how the Left uses language against us. We're stupid to keep calling him "Beto," when his name is Robert Francis. But we're not going to stop. We're going to keep saying "Beto," and "progressive," and "pro-choice," etc.
Also, the APS nickname policy reads, "use the individual's proper name, or don't use it at all." It doesn't make an exception for any nickname, at all. I was called out for calling the ACA "Barrycare," even though "Barry" is not the kind of insulting nickname the policy was intended for, and even though I was not talking about the man, but about the policy routinely nicknamed (here and everywhere) as "Obamacare."
So...?

It's kind of surprising there's no thread (until now) about the Socialist who's about to be a Congresswoman from New York. Since she has a long name most Americans can neither spell nor pronounce, I suggest we call her Bernice.

Except of course when related to this guy, there is no Mexican involved. For whatever the wikipedia is worth, he is 100% Irish, and his parents gave him the nickname "Beto" (used in Mexico as a nickname for the Robertos) to differentiate him from his Grandfather with the same name. Why they did that instead of the more common "Bobby" that Irish people (e.g., the Kennedys) use, who knows.

He is from the El Paso area so maybe that is why.
The guy is a lightweight who just got through spending more money than anyone ever has in a run for a Senate seat and lost. Why he thinks that makes him Presidential material is beyond me. However, he was the media's favorite when running for Senate so maybe he thinks that will carry over to the national stage.

The writer went on to accuse these women of “only” liking the Sex Pistols and the group’s frontman, Sid Vicious, and suggested this affinity led them to enter into abusive relationships.
“ULTRA TRENDY females hook-up with violent boyfriends because, (yeah… you guessed it) ‘He’s so much like Sid Vicious!’” Psychedelic Warlord wrote.
After describing the characteristics of these “ultra trendies,” Psychedelic Warlord offered suggestions for how to handle these people. The ideas included encouraging interactions between the “ultra trendies” and neo-Nazis as well as mocking their appearance.
“Tell the Nazi Skins in your area that this certain ULTRA TRENDY has AIDS. … To kill an ULTRA TRENDY female, show her a picture of what she’d look like without make-up. … Tell him or her that they’re completely ugly,” Psychedelic Warlord wrote.

I don't remember which politician, but I was taken to task for using a nickname that the candidate itself had used. I think this is a rule that started off with good intentions but which isn't as enforceable as its authors might have envisaged.

Some time ago I got my hand slapped for referring to Senator Feinstein as "DiFi." Was scratching my head a bit over that one as no one AFAIK considers that an insult.

I'm beginning to wonder if I haven't, perhaps, been overly concerned about Biden as the most viable Trump contender. For one, he does indeed have baggage, but even moreso from what I'm seeing, his age is a big factor among a good portion of his potential base. Those people are going into the "don't trust anyone over 30" thing like a 1969 hippie.

Biden take in the last 1/3 which are the "moderates" and other not ready to completely embrace the Bernie vision of a Moscow future.
