Title: The internet, a credit card, and....
Post by: K Frame on September 10, 2019, 09:48:22 PM
A Beretta Model 81 in .32 ACP is on its way...

https://dkfirearms.com/product/surplus-beretta-model-81-cheetah-32-acp/

I've wanted one of these for YEARS and have never seen one anywhere near double that price. Most times, nearly triple.

Or course, I get wind of the damned things not a day or two after I agree to buy Mtnbkr's .32 Hand Ejector I frame Second Model...

Hi, my name is Mike, and I love the .32s...

That is tempting...  It's not C&R, is it?  I would renew my 03 FFL for that.

Looks like my old Titan II by F.I.E. only in .380

I ordered one a few weeks ago.  I have only shot it once.  No problems, but I was shooting other stuff and didn't really have a chance to focus on it.  Mine is in pretty good condition, but short of 100%.  It looks like a well cared for, but older pistol.  I would warn you that it basically just comes in a box with packing paper.  No Beretta box or really anything else aside from the magazine.  For $200, I don't have an issue with that.

The only place I found that had magazines was Beretta's website and they sold out before I could order one.  I heard a rumor that surplus magazines were being imported, but were not here yet.

I got one, and two new old stock mags from Midwestern Gun Supply.

It's a sweet shooter, and in about 90% condition. A bit of spot rust that came off with a toothbrush in various nooks and crannies, and holster wear on a few high spots on the slide. A very nice gun for $200. Like all double-stack Berettas, she's a rather fat bottomed girl, so I moved the mag release to the right hand side (lefty setup) so I can reach it with my index finger.

I'll have to get a threaded barrel from Allegheny Arms sooner or later.

Had a real nice one on an estate auction a couple years ago. It sold for a pretty high price IIRC

Thanks for the steer on magazines AJ Dual.

I hadn't considered a threaded barrel, but that might be interesting.

OK Mike, you convinced me.  I ran over to AIM Surplus today (it is about 5 minutes from where I'm staying) and picked up one of the standard grade 81BBs.  Looks to be 90-95% finish, both DA and SA trigger pulls are excellent.

I did a little poking around, and according to people on the Beretta Forum, you can drop in a Model 84 or BDA barrel and magazine for a .380 conversion. https://berettaforum.net/vb/showpost.php?p=873336&postcount=6

Midway has Mec-Gar .380 mags for half the price of Beretta mags: https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1006233048?pid=892669

Oh boy! FuckedupintheExcess says that it should be delivered by 4:30 tomorrow!

Of course the gun store where it's going closes at 5...

So they will likely try to deliver it at 6:30.

Every time you buy a gun, God misgenders a kitten.

Overall condition is good, not great. It's got a bunch of finish wear, some bangs and knocks, and a bit of rust in the slide serrations.

The trigger, however, is absolutely fantastic. VERY smooth and not too heavy. I'm going to clean it up in the next couple of days and see how much ammo I have for a range trip.

Mine's a sweet shooter. Very crisp fast, but small recoil impulse. The tinyish sights are a bit of a challenge, but not to bad at any range you'd use a .32.

And it should make a great suppressor host with a threaded barrel, since all factory .32 ACP is subsonic in factory loads.
