DID YOU KNOW THAT THEY USED A SONG FROM A PEDOPHILE IN THE MOVIE!@?!?!+{!?!*

At least, that seems to be the newest reason the liberals hate the movie, because they can't admit it's because the director spoke out about cancel culture.

*(For explanation, the Joker dances/walks or something to "Rock and Roll Part 2" whose composer is in jail for sex with underage girls. The statement is correct that the composer is a convicted pedophile. However, every sports stadium in the country is also using the same song.... )

Is there a new Joker movie or something?  I saw Harley Quinn and Joker ice cream flavors at Target last night.

Was talking to a friend last night who saw it and he compared it to A Clockwork Orange.

I only watched Clockwork up until the first rape scene about 20-30 minutes in, then said "this is trash" and turned it off.

Without a hero to balance the villain, I doubt I'm going to like the movie or see it.  It strikes me as apologism for psychosis.  I don't see a reason to give money to that.

I have never understood why they wanted to make a movie about the Joker. I have zero interest in seeing it, and would not watch it even if it turned up free on Youtube.

I really liked Heath Ledger as the Joker in 'The Dark Knight' and would go see the new movie if it was a comparable performance.

My understanding is it's a "decent into madness" kind of movie.  Batman pretty much just said "The Joker is crazy", with just a little backstory.

Someone apparently asked "What could make a man so very crazy?"  and made a movie.  It's not really my cup of tea in any fashion (Not really A DC fan, not a fan of the Joker as a Batman villain, and not really into studies of madness type movies) so I won't be watching it.

That said the snipits I've seen on trailers seem well done, and Joaquin Phoenix is a talented actor, so it could very well be a good film of it's type.  I suspect that Batman fans will be disappointed and fans of  Monster will like it.

Seems an appropriate movie for the clownworld we're devolving into .....

I think I'll wait for the DVD.
I was listening to Glen Beck discuss this earlier this week.  It's not as bad as its detractors claim.  It does not make a bad guy into a "hero,"  as some fear.
It seems it's underlying theme is more like "can't we just play nice together? ?"
Uh ....  ??? .... we'll see .....

Martin Scorsese  appears to agree with you:

(yes, I know The Joker is not a Marvel character.)

Looks like they've totally retcon'd the Joker's back story.  :(  But the trailer looks good; I might actually watch this.

He did a good character, but my issue with the whole thing was no crook would actually work for or with the Joker as he kills everyone around him.  On top of that, none of them were prepared to kill him instead.

Of course, I thought the whole idea was unrealistic that Batman would never kill any bad guys and continually fight the same bad guys over and over as they escape punishment.

Yes, but in a way that the sjw's hate, so it's probably worth watching.

A comic book nerd I trust summed it up as "They should've called it something else and avoided paying royalties.  It's not true to the source material at all but was a good movie"

Maybe Batman didn't kill Joker, because Joker kills bad guys?

The problem with "It's not true to the source material" is that the comic books themselves keep reinventing the source material. As one example, remember the debate we had here awhile ago about Captain Marvel. When I was a pre-teen and heavily into comics, Captain Marvel was a guy. Superman was always a good guy. Batman was inseparable from Robin.

And so on ...

The way I've seen it explained is the Joker tells his own origin story, and he's an unreliable narrator.  Keith Heath Ledger's version was good at showing that. ("wanna know how I got these scars?")

*Heath

I actually really like that idea.  No one really knows his backstory because he can't be trusted.  Kinda like a slightly less insane Elizabeth Warren

I recall hearing later that the reason Marvel kept reinventing Captain Marvel in the comics is that no one was buying the comics.  They were never very popular so they kept changing it.  Makes you wonder why they chose that character to make a movie about.

Hoping to catch in on the SJW craze probably.

From the NY bird cage liner.
It's all about "whiteness"

Quote
Still, what struck me most is that what the film wants to say — about mental illness or class divisions in American society — is not as interesting as what it accidentally says about whiteness. For it is essentially a depiction of what happens when white supremacy is left unchecked. It shows the delusions that many white men have about their place in society and the brutality that can result when that place is denied.

The fact that the Joker is a white man is central to the film’s plot. A black man in Gotham City (really, New York) in 1981 suffering from the same mysterious mental illnesses as Fleck would be homeless and invisible. He wouldn’t be turned into a public figure who could incite an entire city to rise up against the wealthy. Black men dealing with Fleck’s conditions are often cast aside by society, ending up on the streets or in jail, as studies have shown.

Saw it last night. While the acting was pretty good, the story was mostly crap.
Don’t bother with this movie, its disappointing.

I have a feeling that all of the SJW shrieking is overblown in order to hype the movie.
