So I saw season 2 of The Boys dropped, and started watching it. It ended after four episodes. "WTF?" says I. After some digging, apparently they released the first three episodes at once, then switched to one new episode per week, like network TV does. From some IMDB comments, they may be going in that direction for future Amazon originals.
I think it sucks. I like the idea of all episodes dropping at once, then I get the choice if I want to watch them all at once, or every other day, or once a week. I don't see how switching from what set you apart from network TV to doing the same thing as network TV is a winning strategy.

Ayep. It also makes production schedules easier as they can still be finishing up things with later episodes when the season begins airing.

I'm pretty sure they did that with the last season of the Grand Tour as well. I'm often late to new shows, so I don't remember if The Boys and Carnival Row seasons 1 were spaced out.
I thought the "all at once" paradigm was Netflix's? Disney+ also does one episode a week.

We noticed a lot of Prime programming is now changing over to "rental". If you want a great series to binge, watch The Musketeers 3 seasons (30 episodes) before they switch that over to rent. I was watching the original Magnum and after the first few episodes it went to rent. If this keeps up, I'll just not renew my Prime membership.
I dropped Netflix even before the latest controversy over child porn. Most every decent movie that had a great plot and acting usually became filled with profanity, and nearly XXX porn. Actually that ruined some very well done plots.

But Prime is an annual subscription. There is no monthly option that I've ever seen.

Part of it is also free advertising and keeping the show in the minds of the consumer for longer. Some youtube channels and others are doing weekly reviews of the latest episodes. Lots of potential publicity for multiple weeks as the show airs. If it was a binge model, everyone watches it all at once and all the discussion is over in a couple weeks.
You can always wait a month or so and watch it all at once.
