Title: People Eating Tasty Animals — what’s the best animal?
Post by: Silver Bullet on October 09, 2020, 09:22:08 PM
Maybe … beef?

T-Bone
Ribeye
Brisket
Ribs
Chuck roast
Porterhouse
Filet mignon
Sirloin steak

Maybe … pork?

Ham
Bacon
Shoulder
Ribs
Chops

Maybe … shellfish?

Lobster
Crab
Clams
Scalllops
Oysters
Shrimp

Maybe … fowl?

Chicken
Turkey
Pheasant
Duck

Maybe … fish?

Salmon
Halibut
Trout
Catfish
Bass

Maybe ... game?

Elk
Deer
Antelope

Maybe … other?

I guess I always lean to beef, but the beef cuts all taste somewhat similarly to me compared to pork.  The pork cuts are all very distinct from each other in addition to being delicious.  I guess for me it's a tossup between beef and pork.  Beef may not be as varied but I think it is more satisfying somehow, even if not as tasty.

Isn't this a remarkably pointless thread?   =D

No. This thread is not pointless. The answer to your question is 'bison.'

I finally found a positive use for the term "diversity".

All the critters are delicious if proper cookery is applied.

If you're forcing me to choose one, it's the noble bovine all the way.

I remember from a long time ago on a similar website, where many of the contributors were of the opinion that the correct answer was "squirrel".  These were apparently afficionados because some of them made the distinction between squirrels that ate acorns (maybe predominately squirrels back east) and those that were forced to subsist on pine cones (western cousins), because the ones that ate pine cones were said to be nearly inedible.  My wife feeds the squirrels in our back yard either walnuts or peanuts.  We haven't eaten them yet.

Dearest Wifely loves to pack my lunch with turkey or chicken.  I'm tired of that.

And ground turkey is nasty.

She sometimes makes a "white chili" with chicken, that's pretty good.  probably because it's massively spiced with chili powder.

I thought shark was tasty, the one time I had it.

Baby Shark! do do do do do do...

Actually, it's a tossup between beef and pork.

Shrimp is mighty good, but not as versatile even if Bubba can recite 200 ways to prepare it.

First of all, "fowl" is not an animal. You listed several different types of animal.

Secondly, shellfish is not an animal. You listed several different types of animal.

Thirdly, fish is not an animal. You listed several different types of animal.

Fourthly, game is not an animal. You listed several different types of animal.

Fifthly, the best animal is bacon wrapped beef.

Sixthly, bears beats Battlestar Glactica.

Bacon wrapped beef is not an animal, either.  Stop being so pedantic!

I ingeniously expanded the animal concept to include animal groups, okay?   Think outside the box!  =D

Elk.  Everything else is just to survive until the next Elk dish is served.

I prefer a nice medium rare steak. One of our favorite restaurants is a Belgian cuisine restaurant does an amazing Ribeye that is perfectly charred on the outside but perfect on the inside served over a bed of fries with a choice of mayonnaise dipping sauces. One of my other favorites brings the whole ribeye to the table for you to select your thickness and pairs it with an amazing baked potato and a great salad bar. Either of these places my wife and I can go have a great meal for about $80-100. We did go to Ruth Chris down in Savannah for my birthday and that meal was utterly amazing but also almost $200.

The answer is obviously chicken, because of the eggs thing. Also a very cheap animal to keep. Next would be cow or goat because of the milk+meat equation.

Gotta luv'em!

We finally found a great steakhouse nearby, place called the Four Winds.  The restaurant is on ranch (formerly owned by a Dallas Cowboy player) where dinner is raised.  They prepare the steak with what's a mostly salt rub that leaves a fantastic crust.

Yeah, beef is the answer.

My wife used bacon juice to fry latkes this morning. Sorry, Jews. They're just better that way. It's science.

Okay, I'll .. bite!  Where did you find bushbuck?

Went to the Dark Continent and shot it, if I correctly recall.

Fish, shellfish, fowl, game, etc., are most certainly animals. They're all members of the Kingdom Animilia.

Some of them are extremely tasty animals.

They are animals, not an (meaning "one") animal.

That's why bacon-wrapped beef is the best animal.

Now, seriously, this question is rather hard. There are basically, three schools of thought:

Pork is amazing for its versatility, but if I took this as a "which animal would you be willing to eat exclusively for the rest of your life?", beef wins hands down.

Or maybe we could use the "what animal should you stock on an interstellar voyage for colonists to use en route and raise once they arrive"? for which is best.

Or which is best for raising on your own in an earthly setting?

I think I'm going with black bears that eat beets.

I eat bacon, yes the tick thing I believe. The impossible/beyound burger is a decent substitute for mouth feel and  taste but it's not 100%.

Uhm.... OK. Whatever makes you happy while you're eating your recipe constructed from TWO animals...

Unless you've managed to come up with a hybrid of a pig and a beef... a Bork? a Peef?

I was surprised lamb wasn't mentioned in the beginning.

Trouble is you have to special-order it, at least at City Market / King Soopers.  So I sometimes have lamb chops at restaurants.

But beef, hands down, on "the rest of your life" premise.

I had Burger King's "impossible burger" once and it was surprisingly good, but I wouldn't have it as a steady diet if regular burgers were available.  An interesting experiment, though.

I'm not sure of the marketing thrust for either impossible burgers or baconified beef.  I mean, if you're a vegetarian, you're a vegetarian, and if you keep Kosher, you keep Kosher, so why venture into a semi-forbidden area?
