Who are your favorite comedians? I like Lewis Black, Ron White's one bit is good (write some more material, man!) and Jerry Seinfeld is always good for a chuckle. Nitch Hedberg us great - if you're in the right mood. There are a few others whose names escape me.

I think my favorite is Jay Leno for his ability to serve up funny social and political commentary that, in most cases, is more biting than many newsmen's.

John Stewart is very funny, too, but I haven't yet formed the habit of tuning him in regularly on my old C-band.   Tongue

Chris Rock is hilarious, but I'm always holding my breath - waiting for a leftist comment.

Bill Hicks and Billy Conolly.  I don't always agree with ol' Bill, but he was mighty funny.

Is this limited to just stand-up or does it include comedic actors and SNL types?  That Hedberg guy is pretty funny.  I watch the BET stand-up show once or twice a week - it always has some no-name new folks that are funny as hell.  I'd tell you their names, but I can't remember them.  Cheesy  I still like Rodney Dangerfield, Chevy Chase, Bill Murray, and a bunch of others - way too many to have a few favorites.

Chris Rock is the funniest stand-up currently, IMO.

Robin Williams never fails to crack me up.

A couple of weeks ago I saw the Smothers Brothers do a show.  They've mastered the art of being funny without being raunchy, pretty much a lost art in today's world.

Forgot about Robin Williams - which does remind me of Jonathan Winters.

Smother's Bros - yeah forgot them as well. IIRC Tommy  is a Champion Yo-yo 'er.

Yeah, I'd forgotten about Tommy's yo-yo talent.  Part of their show is the Yo-Yo Man.  He's pretty good with it.  They're also accomplished musicians.

Jonathan Winters - there's another blast from the past.

Along with most of the ones mentioned so far, I'll throw Mitch Hedberg's name in.  He basically just stands there saying the randomest things, but for some reason it's hillarious

"you know, you shouldn't wave at people, because what if somebody doesn't have any arms?  Then you're just rubbing it in their face.  'Look, I have hands, I can pick things up with them.'"

He's coming to my school next Tuesday. Cheesy

Dave Chapelle, Lewis Black, John Stewart, George Lopez (stand up not the sitcom), Steve Colbert on Daily Show as well (great deadpan).

Real good standup on XM radio.  Both old and new comedians.  Very entertaining when talk radio gets a little tired.

Dennis Miller. A born-again Republican...who'da thunk it?

Sam Kinnison...dang, but I miss him.

George Carlin always is funny as far as I'm concerned.

Bill Hicks, Eddie Izzard, Rodney Carrington for his song about a twelve inch pickup truck or similar, Chris Rock, R.Williams, Rowan Atkinson.

Black adder would be my all time favourite comedy series.

Robin Williams is strange.  It seemed like he was going years without being funny, just doing crappy movies and doing unfunny appearances, then I saw him on "In the Actors Studio" (or whatever that stuffy actor interview show is called) late last year, and he was HILARIOUS.  Had me, my mom & my dad in physical pain from laughing.  He was all over the map (as usual), but it worked again.

George Carlin seems to go in cycles: plain funny, wierd but still sorta funny, crappy/deranged, back again.  I like how he will go off on literally ANYONE and ANYTHING on Earth.  During one routine, just as I was getting annoyed that he sounding like a doctrinaire liberal, he went and declared atomic war on feminists.

Sam Kinnison was funny as hell, vulgar and awful sure, but he used it as a tool to amplify his humor, rather than as a substitute for humor, if that makes any sense.

Haven't kept up with Chris Rock, which is a little wierd since I liked the stuff I saw when I saw it.

George Carlin
Dennis Miller...going to see him again next month
Dave Atell
John Stewart's stand-up is good
Denis Leary's No Cure For Cancer is one of the funniest things I have ever seen in my life.  His stand-up was great.
