SO, who else Uses a CMM at work?

(1/1)

Andrew Wyatt:
My job occasionally requires me to reverse engineer parts, and my employer has thoughtfully provided a Coordinate measuring machine for this purpose.

ANyone else use one at work?

Gewehr98:
I've always wondered about that process.  What does one do to keep from running afoul of copyright or patents on items that you reverse-engineer?  Somebody told my you just change the design a minimum of 10% to avoid litigation.

Andrew Wyatt:
That's not really my area of expertise.

when i reverse engineer something, i end up changing it that much anyway just to make it easier to manufacture and draw.

Newt:
We have a Mitutoyo CMM machine here.  I don't use it a whole lot, but all of the results/coordinates are given to me to redraw.  It's a handy machine.
