Are auto makers required to print, "Professional driver on a closed course," for every commercial where a car is driven?

Even when the commercial shown is for a minivan driving at normal speeds on a normal road that stupid disclaimer is at the bottom of the TV screen.  If it takes a professional driver to drive that car, then I'm obviously not qualified to buy it, so why do they advertise it? rolleyes

Yup[.  Lawsuits.  Year back, GM & Pontiac got hit because of an ad showing a Trans-Am doing a J-turn.  Some kid, drunk, in San Antonio tried it and didn't do it right.  He hit an electric pole guy-wire, flipped, and his passenger was killed.  "That ad was aimed a t teenagers, making them drive crazy!"

I've thought this for a really long time... you're the first person I've heard bring that up. It's obviously understandable when it's an ad for a sportscar doing 100 mph and taking tight turns at high speeds- but it seems as if a normal vehicle going slow down a normal street gets the "warning" too. I don't see how a car maker could possibly be sued for that... but I guess they can never be too cautious with all the crap morons sue for.

The best one is the newest - Jeep SUV under water, with the kids looking at sharks through the sunroof. The disclaimer reads, "Fictionalization. Vehicle not suitable for underwater use."
