$250 Rebate for Seniors
« on: October 15, 2010, 07:36:31 PM »
Can someone explain to me how this is any different than when Bush gave everybody $100? You know, back when the Democrats said it was a stupid idea that didn't help anyone.

Sure, I can tell you how it's different.

Now it's the Obama Administration doing it.  That makes it all better.

Easy.  Bush gave a measley $100.  Obama is going to give $250.

Everybody knows $250 is different than $100.

You don't need to be a Repubricrat to understand the difference.

The big news will be the debate between the R's and the D's over how much more $250 is than $100.  D's will say 2 1/2 times bigger while R's will say only 1 1/4.

stay safe.
If cowardly and dishonorable men sometimes shoot unarmed men with army pistols or guns, the evil must be prevented by the penitentiary and gallows, and not by a general deprivation of a constitutional privilege.

Bush gave checks to everyone, as a more immediate and effective method of implementing a tax cut.

Barry is giving checks to seniors, on the grounds that we're not already giving them enough and they deserve more.

I do see some real differences between the two policies, especially between the rationals underlying them.

I worry that giving these $250 SS payouts every year sets a precedent that will be hard to break.  Perhaps that's by design?

This is just one of Obama's methods of buying votes for his party.  Granted, it involves him promising to make good during the post-election lame duck congressional session, but the end effect is the same.

Simple.  You get more votes/dollar when you limit it to seniors.
