Everyplace is well over $3.00 with most in the $3.1x's.   I did manage to get fuel for $2.72 a week ago at the Pilot in Carol Stream.  I should have filled up all the gas cans in the garage...

$2.67 to $2.71 around here and still rising.

If you can, fill up before you cross Illinois and fill up again a couple exits into Iowa. Iowa City, IA has some of the highest gas prices in Iowa.

My go-to station is still at $3.02. Curiously, my number two station was at $2.96 this morning (May 22). I was low driving home from a meeting this evening and I stopped at a station that's not on any of my usual routes. They were at $2.99.

Prices are well over $3 a gallon at most stations in Northern Virginia.

When I was in Iowa prices actually started to slip a little bit. Oil has slipped quite a bit off its high over the last week or so.

May 30, 2018, mid-day:

Price at my usual "go to" station was $3.059 for unleaded regular. Price at what I consider my second choice was $3.129 (Exxon a half mile down was $3.119.) Found a no-name station near the VA hospital at $2.999.

Down to $2.60 now that we're over the Memorial Day spike.
Predicted to drop some more in coming days.

paid $2.75 at the Iowa-80 truckstop, then $2.79 near Bumblefark, IA*.  The stations here in Kearney, NE are at $2.89

I passed that truck stop on my way to Cedar Rapids and on the way home. Didn't stop.

Suitably impressed at how big it is.

What really surprised me is how good the coffee is at the Casey's General Store chain.

  • The one on I-80?
  • That's what she said.
  • In Minnesota, the coffee at KwikTrip convenience stores is amazingly good.  Supposedly in Iowa the same stores are called KwikStar and sell the same coffee, but they must be in the eastern part of the state cuz I haven't seen any.

Yes, the world's largest truck stop on I-80.

I didn't see any KwikStar convenience stores...

The only other ones I noticed (that weren't part of a gas station chain) were Kum & Go (that's what she said!) and Kwik Stop.

I also stopped at a couple of Love's Travel Stops in Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio. They had decent coffee, but nothing to write home about.

We are blessed here in Iowa several gas station brands that serve good coffee.

Prices have started to ease just a bit here in Northern Virginia, now in the low to mid $2.80s at most stations.

The unreasonable ones are still well above $3.00

June 6: Go-to station $2.999. [Former] #2 station $3.129. I wasn't in the area of the station below the VA hospital so no report on that.

We've dropped a nickle or so in my area of NC over the last couple of weeks.

After several months of going up, gasoline is finally going down at SOME of the stations in the area.

I paid $2.69 this morning. The Citgo near my house, though, is still stuck at $2.83, and the Exxon near where I do my shopping is still at $3.29 (ludicrous).

OPEC is meeting today to talk about expanding production limits.

So, of course, crude prices are going up today, which makes no sense because it's a given that OPEC will expand output, just not by how much.

Yep, and crude, gasoline, and heating oil futures are continuing to go up in spite of the prospect of increased supply.

Not sure what the hell that's all about.

And it still doesn't factor in the increasing American production.
