"gas up in PA is 40 cents more expensive than here.  No apparent reason.  Just more expensive."

No apparent reason?

Well, when you realize that Pennsylvania has the HIGHEST gasoline taxes in the nation, at 58.2 cents a gallon on top of the Federal 18.4 cent per gallon tax, it becomes very apparent.

In 2014 the state gas tax was 31 cents.

Compare that to Virginia's gas tax, which is 22.4 cents per gallon.

Wow. I thought for sure it would be CA (which the googles says in second). Even Hawaii's is lower. I can see states like WA being in the top five, but I would not have even considered PA being there, let alone #1.

I filled up for $1.69/ gal on Saturday.

...because a BJ's just opened up here and had a special discount for new members.

I pretty much made back the cost of membership just by filling up both our cars.

The entire purpose of raising the gas tax so high was specifically to address the road issues in Pennsylvania. They were neglected for decades by a long string of both Democratic and Republican administrations.

Government at all levels has been kicking the can down the road on everything they possibly can.

We've had (collectively) the worst governance in the history of the country, running off of accumulated capital and borrowing against the future to spend as much as possible in the now.

Apparently, we're planning to screw over the succeeding generations as much as we possibly can.

Stations in Arlington where I go to drop off Seren are sitting at $2.59. The station near my house is refusing to budge, however, and is still at $2.75.

Better than where I work, though. The stations near my office are at $2.91 and $2.99.

Best of all, OARP got pummeled yesterday. WTI lost almost $3 a barrel, and it's looking like it's going to trend down again today. Gasoline futures also got smacked pretty hard.

I paid $2.29 this morning.

Of course, to get that price I had to rack up $300 in groceries at my local chain that is partnered with Shell.

I topped-off the tank yesterday with E15 for 2.479.  No discounts, that was the price on the pump.  Car was 3/4 full already; I'm starting a long trip today and wanted to start with a full tank.

Jumped up from $2.57 to $2.89 Wednesday here in W. Michigan.  Fortunately, I filled 3 six gal tanks for my mower and snowblowers and SWMBOs car in the AM at $2.57.  A couple hours later I went to top of my truck and $2.89.

Filled up for $2.29 for E10 about 20 minutes ago.

I did too, this morning at a Shell station in Oklahoma City.  I saw it at another off-brand station for 2.219.

Prices are continuing to slowly drop here in Northern Virginia. I paid $2.51 for regular this morning on my way to work. It's still at $2.65 at the Citgo near my house, though.

Prices should continue to move lower over the near term, I think, given that crude had its worst month in 2 years in October.  That's being primarily pushed by concerns that the trade war with China will drive economic growth lower plus Saudi Arabia's plans to pump more crude.

It's dropped to around $2.53 to $2.57 in this area, with an outlier of two stations in Newton at $2.42.  One is a Kangaroo, the second is a Chevron across the street.  The Chevron is normally a dime higher than the Kangaroo.  I think they may be engaged in a price war.
