$3.19 this morning in NW Illinois. Filled up yesterday across the river with Iowa gas $290.9 at Sam's Club
I still need to fill the little sport coupe with hi octane before I put it away for winter. should be almost $1 per gal less than last year.
With the mid term elections coming up, are we sposed to thank our liar in chief and his minions for the relief?

Damn don't even think JP fuel is that high. >:D

Find it interesting that out in Cali diesel is lower than gas but here in the middle part of the country it runs more than gas.

$3.09 Monday when I filled up.  MPG seems to be down around 36 again, so I guess it's time to clean the plugs and intake, and do another pistons soak to get it back up to 38.6.

I certainly didn't expect this back in the days when I could fill up my 1983 Fairmont from dead empty, get a 44oz soda and a pack of Camels, and still get change from a $20.  Took a bit longer to earn that tank of gas, but then I was also a high school student working part time entry level minimum wage jobs too.

"In '98 for a while it was back under $1.00 but it didn't last long."

I remember that. Late summer early fall, IIRC.

87 octane dropped back to about 85 cents a gallon for maybe a week or two, then started a long progressive climb.

I can't figure our diesel prices out. There's a seasonal component of course, but it also fluctuates within that. A couple of weeks ago it was higher than regular, and a couple of weeks before that it was lower. There are also county level aspects regarding taxes. The next county over always has higher diesel than mine, even when their gas is lower, and mine is the one that hates petroleum. I'm pretty sure that's because of their local tax on diesel.

At the "local" station the premium is ethanol free.

I bought five gallons a while back (Aug/Sep ?) for the chain saw - it was well over $4 dollars/gallon at that time  =(

I read somewhere online somebody put premium in their Suburban and got 28mpg  :O  ???   =|

Ran across that in Benbrook last week; Racetrac was $3.45, when all the other stations were under $3.10.

Around here Racetrac is almost always the cheapest gas in the region.  Even when it isn't, it's very close.

Surprised the heck out of me too; I'd already pulled in because they're usually cheaper than everybody except QT, but even the Mobil across the street was $3.09.

I always fill up in VA when I drive through because they are cheaper. I have been paying <3 for the last couple months. Locally in NC we are at 3.15ish.

That was one benefit to be driving through Indiana to get to college. I saw under $1.00 gasoline for most of my college years. (Late 90s.)

Incidentally, I forgot to mention, we are at $2.85 for 87 octane here. (Kroger, pre-discount)

Bunch of whippersnappers!  Gas wars!  Used to be there was a gas station on every corner of major intersections and not only did someone in a snappy uniform - which included a clip-on bowtie and some sort of bus driver hat - pump gas into your tank, they checked your oil, topped up the water in your radiator (we didn't have no stinkin' antifreeze back then), and handed you either a box of laundry detergent that had either or a drinking glass or a dish towel inside right after they blew air into your tires.

Gas was $0.27.9/gal before the war was declared.  It could go down as low as whatever the federal excise tax was.  Cars would line up around  the block and some junior hose jockey in that snappy uniform would be passing out cold sodas (the 5-ounce size) or maybe even ice cream on a stick.  Eventually 3 stations would fall but prices did not go up much above the starting price, if they went up at all.

stay safe.

min wage was about $1.25/hr IIRC

So - 3 to 4 gallons of gas at least, vs what - 2 gallons today  =|

Forget the average annual salary unless you are converting way-back-then dollars to today dollars and adjust the cost of living figures as well.  In 1953 it was possible to rent a room for $5/week and for another $5/week you could get (admittedly rather meager) breakfast and dinner.  OTOH there were far fewer luxury items that the average working stiff could afford.

The real fun of nostalgia is the selective memory - only to good things get mentioned, while the rest of the stuff that made life back then the same rat-race hellhole as today is ignored.

I remember buying gas for 17 cents a gallon when I was sixteen. At that time I worked as a dishwasher making 95 cents an hour. So, I could buy 5.58 gallons for an hour of work. Maybe this is where the minimum wage movement gets the idea of $15 an hour. If so, they're wrong, as gas prices aren't a good measure of inflation.

Do a lot of you guys have 85 octane? The only place I've ever seen it is in Idaho.

87 octane is the lowest I have ever seen in Ohio.

$3.09 at the Wilco-Hess here in Hickory, NC.  Filled up yesterday.
I expect we'll dip just under $3/gal and then it will head back up.

I drove past two sets of stations last nigth, where it was 2.99 one place, and 2.79 just a 1/4 mile down the road; or 2.93 and 2.73 at the other place (may have been with a car wash, though).

Weird.
