If you remove the coyotes, what takes its place? Something worse, or do you get overrun with rodents?

We've had yotes in our burb ever since I moved here.  Now we have bobcats, too.  Both prefer to stay near the creek beds.  I have no doubt they get lots of kitty cats.

Even have a fox near the kids' school.

For my own part, I don't mind them.  Every one I have seen has high-tailed it out of there.  Let them eat rats.

If I were in the country, I would shoot on sight, though, to protect my livestock.

coyote
stray cat-yote
ferral hog-yote
burglar -yote
....this could be useful.

I would want to make an except for Mr. Wyle E. Coyote.

If I had livestock I would have a defensive animal. Like a mule, llama or live stock guardian breed of dog.

I have shot my fair share of them also, fun to call them in and take them at 25 yards or less with a shotgun loaded with 4 buck. If you blink, they run like their ass is on fire and their head is catching.

I have it on good authority that a 180gr Barnes TSX aver a hot load pushing around 2900fps will pretty much turn the coyote into an interesting treat for buzzards.

My pony, may she rest in peace, would stomp yotes flat. I mean slide em under a door flat.

Problem is they aren't the same as the western coyotes. They are a coyote/wolf hybrid, and from what I've seen they aren't as scared of people as they should be.

Oh yea, that would be just fine until the next hunting season.  ;)

http://billingsgazette.com/news/state-and-regional/montana/sorry-that-llama-sure-looked-like-elk/article_7e1da577-c771-54c3-abe9-033bf7324d69.html

And another.

Quote
Yet in 1999 an exotic beast apparently confused a hunter in Montana who brought down an unusual critter on the Cascade Hutterite Colony near Fort Shaw. Only after he and his partner tagged and field dressed their 300 pound trophy and presented it at the local meat processor's did they begin to suspect all was not as it should have been. The processor refused to handle the carcass, so the befuddled hunters next took the animal to the state-run game check station where they were informed that their "deer" was in fact a llama.

Yotes are much bigger here than out west . I am genuinely worried my border collie will get hurt or worse.

Yotes aren't historic to your area, I often wonder if they are a hybrid of the western coyote and extirpated red wolves.

Coyotes used to be western states only. Removal of the wolves and bears from the Midwest, South and East allowed them to expand their range.

My Dad whacked one saturday,  looked to be last years pup,  was in the pasture harassing our horses.  22-250 put an end to that nonsense.

Once enough Fluffy's and Yippie's disappeared the city here decided to hire a trapper.  We'll still see one every now and again, as they are managing the population to help keep other critters under control, as opposed to trying to wipe the 'yotes out.

On occasion I see them around my house. I live off of train tracks and near a golf course.

The local forest preserves I frequent are near both train tracks as well as waterways.

Around the house here they don't seem to loiter but in the woods they show less fear.

I had a fox around my house for a while but it's been a couple years since I've seen it around.
For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity, that they may be without excuse. Because knowing God, they didn’t glorify him as God, and didn’t give thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.
