Rabbits - vs - Squirrels
« on: April 22, 2005, 08:23:30 PM »
I've been thinkin about this for over a week now and want to know what y'all think.
Bunnies have a reputation for being prolific breeders.
But, how many dead bunnies do you see in the middle of the street?
Where as Squirrels are practically street paving, yet there are always plenty more climbing trees and what ever else squirrels do.
SO which one is actually the more prolific breeder?

You may be onto something.  I see lots of pavement pelts and road pizzas around my place- all big, fat fox squirrels.  I can usually see at least 3 to 5 any time I look outside around my place at any given time.

It's been maybe 6 months since I've been presented with half a rabbit by the cats, though.
I haven't seen one DRT on the road since I was in Amarillo a few weeks ago, but that one had antlers.

As for me, I ain't got no offspring.

Regards,
Rabbit.

Tons of dead rabbits on the roads in NV, I've never seen a dead squirrel on the road there.  Here in Missoula, there are a few smooshed squirrels on the roads, and no rabbits.

Well... depending on the individuals involved. As a Foamy fan, I'd have to put my money on the squirels ("feel my squirely wrath!"). However, if the bunny in question is a particular mini-lop, then all bets are switched ("ka'click!")...

 Sorry... couldn't resist...

Rabbits. Take a look at Australia.

Squirrels are rats with PR.

No bunnies in my neighborhood.  Tons of squirrels, though.  Haven't seen too many road kills.

This being Los Angeles, I can only think that they have developed "street smarts..."  Smiley

Lots of dead bunnies on my street, but my backyard is up against a large college baseball complex and cross country field. My yard is full of large mature maple trees so no squirrels here. Last night I was talking to someone outside and about 7-8 rabbits were running around the batting cage behind my house, like they were running around in circles. I imagine in a few weeks there will be another crop of 15-20 little baby b@stard bunnies running around.

There are plenty of squashed squirrels around here.  They are easier to hit with two tons on rolling rubber than with a .22.  Rabbits don't seems to screw around in the road here as much as the squirrels.

You have to be kidding me.  Do you look at the road while driving?

I've noticed that rabbits are usually a straight shot across the road, while squirrles stand out in the middle chomping down on thier nuts.

Same thing with deer and turkey.  Many more dead deer than turkey.  Deer will stand in the road, or right on the edge, while turkeys run or fly when a car is coming.

Both are real tastey. I like rabbits roasted or grilled. Squirrels are best fried. Stews of one or the other are good on a cold winter night.

Rabbit is much more tastey, IMHO. But those tree rats are everywhere. I think is based more on habitat. The environment near me is more favorable toward squirrels that rabbits, I guess.

I'm swimming in rabbits and squirrels!  I think rabbits have the DNA transfer edge.

Someone dumped a couple of mult-colored rabbits in a cemetary near my subdivision.  They have almost taken over--but for some unexplained (at least what I tell the police) airborne pathogens that travel at 900 fps and come in a diameter of .177.
I do not smoke pot, wear Wookie suits, live in my mom's basement, collect unemployment checks or eat Cheetoes, therefore I am not a Ron Paul voter.
