The "super-owners" start at  8 guns, people; 17 is the "average."

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/sep/19/us-gun-ownership-survey

They said super-owners have up to 140 guns. I guess above that you're a super-domestic-terrorist?

It's funny when non-gun owners try to write about subjects like this. They don't even understand why it is easy and maybe even necessary to have easily a dozen guns or so. I would say 8 is about the minimum number off guns one should own.

.22lr rifle and pistol, AR or AK type, carry pistols - one full size and one small, a shotgun, a scoped large caliber, a Milsurp or two just cause you can't pass up the low cost, and/or a revolver or two if your carry gun isn't a revolver or a semi or two if revolver is your carry. There you are at 8 or even 10 with a very small reasonable collection allowing for a few different uses.

And that is without even getting into any real collecting of any type or brand where just having different calibers or age of different fireaarms can quickly add up. For example last I purposely counted I had at least one 1911 or 1911 type in over 20 different calibers.

And all of those guns, plus ammo and accessories, still cost less than a new car and they last much longer.

Moved out of Lake Woebegone, did you?

 Also, I think I just realized what the name means, if it is meant that way.

I've since found "I'm not really sure" to be the answer that bothers them, or impresses them the most.  =D

I use this answer whenever anyone asks me how many guns or cats I have: More than a couple.

The very few friends close enough to ask that question either don't care or already know.
On the rare occasion a new acquaintance should ask that question I will pause, stare off into space for a few minutes, maybe move my lips like I'm mentally counting, then come back and say " I don't know for sure anymore, I'd have to count them."
Strangers or even worse, survey takers, either get no answer if I'm in a really good mood or "none of your damn business" if I'm not. I think the last time I was in a really good mood was Spring of '07.

Ditto.  Really and truely, not sure.  Hostile or MYOB questioners get an unhelpful non-answer answer.

It's easier for me to count calibers.  So many .45s, so many nines, etc.

We have the basic required guns:
22 target/plinker pistol
22 rifle
9mm carbine
9mm medium frame double stack auto
9mm large frame double stack auto
.38 spl large frame revolver
.44 Navy Black Powder Cap & Ball

Wanted:
AK variant
AR variant
mini pocket 9mm auto (6 or 7 shot)

Gone and not replaced due to $ and health issues:
My loved 8mm auto rifles, Hakim, FN49, and my .303 Enfields :-( (can't shoot anything with serious recoil due to high risk of detached retinas)
Terri's .44 Magnums (arthritis in her wrists has killed shooting the big revolvers for her) :-(

I used to break it down by handguns calibers, rifles calibers and shotguns, but then Dad went into the bullpup and crazy pistols that used to be rifles phase and it screwed me all up.

I stopped being able to give an accurate head count about 5 or 6 years ago and that was a count that involved a lot of hemming, hawing and using fingers and toes to keep the count.

We will probably buy a High Point C9 as a car gun for Terri. Ya know, something that works but ya don't care if it gets beat up, or if the car gets stolen and it is stolen along with it. Fortunately, her car is low on the "steal me" list too and she is anal about locking it. That will put me back in with the "Cool guys" and I can hold my head up around here again... right?

The study shows a decline in gun ownership from 25% to 22% since 1994, so the rate of gun ownership has indeed gone down slightly. But “fewer hands”? Not when you factor in population growth. The US population has gone from 263 million in ’94 to a present of about 313 million, which means that the absolute number of gun owners has risen by a few million. So no, there are not “more guns in fewer hands,” but “more guns in more hands.”

It’s also worth noting just how much this survey differs from the General Social Survey that’s cited by the Violence Policy Center to show a double-digit decline in gun ownership percentages in the past few decades. The General Social Survey is an outlier, and the Gallup survey of gun owners is a lot closer to the Harvard/Northeastern study numbers.

Uhh....yeah.  I really should do some kind of inventory.

I'm not even sure I could list all the calibers off the top of my head.  But I'm pretty sure I hit their (low) bar for superness.

Ballistic tests on the C9 are just not that good:

Don't start with me, I'm armed for bear on THAT front, including thr FULL video that clip came from that actually shows the High Point to be better than one would think!

Check out this series of videos where these guys set out to destroy one to show what piles of junk they were and found out that it was almost indestructible!

Here is another of a series I just ran across with a nice real world evaluation of one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=24Ch_IQg-io
