Gun sales could fall under President Trump
« on: January 21, 2017, 06:57:18 PM »
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/01/20/though-champion-gun-rights-president-trump-could-jam-firearm-sales.html

Primarily because there is less concern that the new Administration and Congress will enact more gun controls.

I prefer to think of it as gun (and ammo) prices falling.  =)

Except for one thing: where do you go to shoot where there's nobody else shooting, so you can shoot without hearing protection? I have one can, and another on the way, and don't have an answer to that question.

For me and my 22lr can, it'll come out with me when I go hiking in the national forest, when I go to deer camp, and even while sitting in a tree stand (good for popping tree rats).  I could potentially get away shooting in my parents' backyard if I am discrete (they are in a semi-suburban area).

I just ordered a nicer pair of active noise canceling ear plugs with blue tooth.  If my guns are quieter, it will be quieter overall with less need to double up with muffs also.

Besides, I will still want to shoot 357 magnum and I can't see putting a can on those guns.

My local range is empty on enough occasions to make it worthwhile, not to mention the utility during hunting season.

Done.

Word is that the nearby Bass Pro Shop is selling 333-round boxes of Federal .22LR for $10 / box.

I can't see gun sales falling off too much.  Too many new shooters over the last 20 years.  And the gun companies keep putting new rifles on the market so it seems they aren't worried.

Wouldn't those new rifles have been in development back when Clinton was expected to win?

Well, for me that would be my backyard. =)

My backyard, like I do now.  Or one of the two ranges I have access to.  Typically, I work weekends so when I go to the range during the week I have the place to myself.  NH has a low population density so the range is hardly ever busy.

We could take this as a challenge.
It's been several years since I've added to the arsenal and I have been kind of lusting after a new compact 1911. Might be time to pull the trigger.

To be honest, I've slowed down purchases a bit myself since Trump got elected.  For so long, I've bought ammo, reloading components, reloading tools, magazines, etc with the idea that at some point I wouldn't be able to (or be restricted).  With Trump's election, I've given myself a break from stockpiling.  Now, when I go to a gun store and only buy what I need in the short term or just browse without feeling compelled to stock up.  It's refreshing.

I'm going to try and focus on shooting what I have.

I agree with the comment in the article about Trump (and any pro-gun administration) being better for the industry in the long run. Constantly having to realign the workforce and machinery to try and chase whatever the current "up for ban" firearm is, increase production in anticipation of a run, then hope the run occurs so you can actually get rid of inventory is pretty inefficient. Slow and steady does indeed win this race, IMO.

A climate where firearms are safe results in stable inventory and fair prices (well, unless you're HK and hate verybody :)  ).

Sadly, like several of you here, I have been slacking in getting out with the guns. Part of it has been family issues, but I now live in a pro gun area with a couple of nice ranges, so I have to get off my butt this year. One thing I miss about the old place is being able to go into the National Forest and get off the X doing stuff you can't do at a lot of ranges unless you're competing. It was nice getting up there at 0600 on a weekday and having the shooting area to myself for an hour to move and shoot. Like the rest of my misanthropic life, I like avoiding people at the range as much as I do in all other areas.

Couple of years and I will probably stock up again. For now, no money.

I buy 2-3 new guns every year, don't see that changing much... I usually tell myself that I don't need another, but that usually doesn't last long.

I'm trying remember the gun that I actually bought.  Been given several recently, but not bought any in quite some time.  Last time it was probably the 3 AR-15 complete lowers just before 0bama's first term.  I sold them a couple years later for almost double what I'd paid.  I bought my Beretta AL-391 about the same time frame.  All my other guns date to when I lived in AZ, which was 10+ years ago.

Correction: I did buy my CZ-452 within the last 6.5 years.

Me too. Instead, I'm stocking up on Chinese cutlery, before he walls off the Pacific.

C'mon guys, give Donald a break. After all, the greatest gun salesman in a generation is a tough act to follow.

Didn't Hillary Clinton actually surpass Obama's record last year?
