Brother in law
« on: February 13, 2017, 10:26:51 AM »
If you are the praying type, please say a prayer for my brother in law.  Jimmy went to the ER on Friday after 10 days of feeling progressively worse.  Early diagnosis is an obstructed bile duct in his liver, but they also found spots on both his liver and pancreas.  They suspect he has cancer in both his liver and pancreas.  Jimmy is only in his early 50s.

Pancreatic cancer is horrible.  Prayers sent.
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.
Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.

Diagnosis: pancreatic cancer and two, unrelated tumors in the bile duct in his liver.

Thanks for praying for him.  If you are so inclined, please continue.  I don't plan to provide periodic updates, as they will be just too depressing.  The good thing is that the docs believe they caught it early.

That sucks Unisaw. Very sad to hear. I don't know what words to say other than I hope things go as well as they can both for him and your family.

I don't want to presume or sound morbid, but when the time comes, I hope he looks into hospice or palliative care early.  It can make a significant difference in the natural progression of events.

Millcreek, I am very confident he will discontinue treatment and go to hospice when the time is right.  He is a long-time RN and has seen many patients take it too far, for lack of a better term.  He also has a tremendous amount of faith, which will make the decision somewhat easier.

Damn, when it rains it pours.  Jimmy is still fighting pancreatic cancer and now my 83-y.o. (today) mom was diagnosed with lung cancer on Monday, albeit a treatable form.  She never smoked.  She's trying to decide between surgery and stereotactic radiation therapy.  Thank goodness for modern medicine.

He passed away this evening after lasting a lot longer than the docs had predicted.  The minister told his sister to expect at least 200 at his memorial service, as he was very well-liked at his church and his workplace of 20+ years.
