Trump picks General H.R McMaster.

I didn't know of him till today, but from the reading, he is a masterful choice.

People seem to think Mattis + McMaster is a double whammy of USA.

Wasn't he the guy written up in one of Tom Clancy's non-fiction books as an Armor commander for a tank battle in Desert Storm?  Something Easting?

The Battle of 73 Easting.  He was a Captain commanding 9 tanks, stumbled into a force of 80 Iraqi tanks and destroyed them all.

What did the other 8 tanks do?
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

They cheered him on?  My bad though, the troop he commanded destroyed 80 tanks.   :P

His book, Dereliction of Duty, is on the USMC required reading list for Majors and above.

A very, very good read about how the military's generals failed it's civilian masters during Vietnam.
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.
Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.
