Illinois tried to make Obama's birthday a state holiday. The vote failed.

I don't recall an official (vs some fan club) attempt to make a living president's birthday a holiday before. Anybody know of one? To me, it's a little creepy to do so (regardless of political party).

I heard about this.   Most people were saying that the last thing this bankrupt state needed was another paid day-off for state bureaucrats...


I'm surprised the D's here didn't go along with beatifying the Great and Wonderful Oz Obama.  (They have a super majority in both houses.)

I'm offended when they name public works projects and military ships after living politicians and bureaucrats.

And it often doesn't set well with me even if the politician or bureaucrat is deceased.

AFAIK, the only President with an official holiday in his home state is LBJ, so if we can get California to start Nixon Day and Andrew Johnson Day in Tennessee, then Obama can be in the right sort of company.

He deserves maybe an Obama Microsecond.... if that.

It was like pulling teeth, but he had to OK the carry in parks, for what it's worth, but that was barely equivalent to a microsecond out of 24 hours.
