Y2K Prep
« on: June 16, 2017, 10:28:07 AM »
Apparently we've been preparing for Y2K for the past 17 years:

http://twitchy.com/dougp-3137/2017/06/16/the-resistance-can-add-ended-y2k-preparedness-to-list-of-trumps-impeachable-offenses/

I'm sure some of that was post-Y2K modifications to keep something like that from actually happening. Also possibly EMP hardening, but I think that's different. Still, 17 years?

Deregulation is a major ambition of President Donald Trump’s agenda; as one example, he has signed more laws rolling back his predecessor’s regulations than the combined total of the three previous presidents since the process was established by the 1999 Congressional Review Act.

Alright, let's repeal presidential term limits. Heck, let's cancel all future presidential elections, and just say he's president for as long as he keeps finding stuff to eliminate.

I am SO stealing that line . . .  >:D

'Course this all sounds good, until a federal judge blocks it.

I miss the Y2K prepping.  Got some good deals on guns, ammo, and gear from people when Y2K came and went and nothing happened.

The tax to fund the Spanish American war lasted for 98 years, so by political standards 17 years is lightning speed.

You know, seeing the thread, I thought someone must have messed up his title, maybe getting senile.

But now that I see the government is involved... everything makes sense once more.
I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

Whether it ought to be repealed isn't the point.  Whether it CAN be repealed by the President is.

That's the old canard of making libertarians/minarchists into anarchists, and then decrying the anarchist principles you've placed upon them. I'm pretty sure I'm allowed to prefer less regulation, without wanting the president to repeal every single thing he possibly could.

So, yeah, there are laws/regulation that I like. Which one of them ought to be repealed?

I know you're trying hard to be offended, but you're missing my point in the process.  I'm saying we shouldn't be so giddy until we get the full list of what he has or wants to repeal lest we find our ox gored as well. ;)

But, since you insist on me picking candidates from your favorites list, why don't you start by telling me which ones you do like to save me from making assumptions about you.

I'd be good with that.

If he (with the help of Congress) got rid of everything not in the Constitution.  I'd be like  =D =D =D =D =D =D =D

It sounds like you're worried that Trump is going to roll back some executive order or ax some department you're fond of. What has you so concerned?

Back to the topic (is that allowed around here?) -- if anything, the fact we still have people "preparing" for the Y2K problem is just further proof of the fundamental truth that once government sets something in motion, it's virtually impossible to stop it.
