Another lynch mob in St. Louis
« on: September 09, 2017, 12:21:17 AM »
Or at least, they've promised one, if the latest case doesn't go their way.

Oh, and a group of "clergy" have told the judge the blood is on his hands if the mob claims any victims.

http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/crime-and-courts/clergy-to-judge-the-blood-will-be-on-your-hands/article_21e7cd4f-e8e0-5d97-bcc9-4007f6f7d9f9.html

Yeah, that should help.

There was a rumor the verdict would come out today, so I guess I'm on alert until it finally does. Whenever that might be. The fun part for me is that I now work in the city itself, and not in the out-lying regions, like I used to. Fortunately, my wife works so far out of town, they're practically in the country. A very white, privileged country.

So the case is being heard by a judge, not a jury?

Yup. The officer waived a jury trial, and opted to go with the judge's ruling.

I don't know whether he's guilty. It's a case from about 3 years ago, and I haven't followed it. I'm curious to see, if the judge rules against him, how much rioting there will be anyway.

I don't really want to be in the belly of the beast right now, but it's my wife's birthday, and there's this Turkish place we never go to. Plus, we just watched the Jimmy Stewart version of The Man Who Knew Too Much. This place recalls the Moroccan restaurant scene. This lamb is definitely worth it.

Very low probability of the verdict being announced on a Saturday.... ;)

I seem to remember Turks being rather more effective at dealing with rioters than St Louis PD.

What's the saying?  Bench Trial if you're innocent, jury if you're not?

That said, looking at the evidence, I'm not sure.

They supposedly found Stockley's DNA under a screw on the revolver.  Not somewhere it should be from just handling it.

They found no DNA of Smith's on the revolver, but did find his DNA on a bag of heroin, which had none of Stockley's DNA.

This day and age, why the hell would you handle any evidence without wearing gloves?  Why would you feel the need to "safe" a weapon in a crime scene with a dead suspect before the CSI team arrives?

The rioting?  Honestly, I wish they had phrased that to be more a warning than a threat.  If you're going to find him not guilty, expect and prepare for riots, which could turn ugly if you're not properly prepared.

Agreed. They have no interest in justice, they are only interested in a conviction -- because that's what fits their narrative.

That's how the article describes the incident at the top of the article, although they later acknowledge that he made the police chase him for a mile.  ;/ Now the police officer may be guilty as Hillary Clinton, but - need I explain what's wrong with this picture?

I have heard these days they can get DNA from just a few random cells hanging around.  Unless you know how they gathered the evidence and tested it insuring no cross contamination it is not very useful.  From what I have heard, if you shake someone's hand, then go use the restroom, you now have the DNA of the person on your zipper.  And they can find it if they test it carefully enough.  Perhaps I am exaggerating, but I have heard it can be an issue in some criminal cases since people hear "DNA evidence" and think it is a smoking gun when it isn't.

The CSI:Las Vegas, et al Syndrome.   DNA evidence is the Magic Bullet that proves who's guilty.  In the murder case I was on we had on hold out because the Evidence Tech was relatively new and everyone's DNA was found all over the apartment and the in bathroom.  No *expletive deleted*it Sherlock, 5 people in one apartment.  Of course you are going to find all their DNA in the bathroom sink.  Yes, even the 5 month old twins.  We ruled them out as suspects first thing.

Yes, everyone thinks that it works just like on the show. But if you touch something or have been somewhere, they can probably find your DNA.  DNA is more to rule out who was somewhere there never should have been.

The verdict was announced sometime this morning - not guilty.

I'm currently about 20 blocks from the courthouse, and I expect to be here until about 4.30 today. We'll see how far the madness spreads.

They're complaining about the cops wearing riot gear.

They also burned a Cardinals jersey in the street. Awesome PR move there.

This, and the other link, are being updated constantly, if anyone wants to follow this stuff. So far, it's just run-of-the-mill Obama-era "protest" nonsense. I guess we'll see what happens after dark.

Should have given me a technical.

As long as they also supply either a gunner or driver with it, depending on what position you want, that would work just fine. ;)

According to police, they've already been hit with water bottles.

"Protestors" also tried to get onto a freeway on-ramp, and attempted to block a police bus. There are some "protestors" that have been maced, although I don't know if the cops actually did that, or if they did that to themselves.

Anyone know what kind of trucks these are? Are they mobile showers, to wash down the hippies?
