Scotch and Soda (non-alcoholic)

Have any of you ever tried this drink? Non-alcoholic, but called scotch and soda. I'm in Caldwell,ID right now, and just learned it is apparently a popular regional drink in ID and eastern OR/WA. It's either sprite or 7-up, a shot of vanilla syrup, and some lime.

Sold at diners and the local fast food burger joints, even gas stations. I don't drink much soda at all anymore, but might try one of these tomorrow with lunch.

I have had this on my road trips to Walla Walla and parts of Idaho.  Classically, it is a 7-UP (Sprite can be substituted), a shot of vanilla syrup (like used for coffee), and a squeeze of a lemon wedge or a lime wedge into the drink with the wedge then dropped in.  I like it best with the lime. They are good and you should try one.

If you run into any restaurants in Idaho serving 'finger steaks', you should try those as well.

The diner I'm hitting for breakfast tomorrow has those. Maybe I'll have to do dinner there as well. :)

This stuff seems to be a "Boise and points North" thing. I've been spending most of my time down by Twin Falls or Eastern Idaho when exploring the state and haven't run into either of these at those places. They just hooked me on fry sauce.

I was going to ask the same thing.  It* was a favorite in New York when I lived there.  They know about it in MO?

* glass tumbler 3/4 full of club soda, add milk to create white foam, pour chocolate syrup through the foam, insert spoon through foam to mix the chocolate in the club soda, withdraw spoon.  No eggs involved.

The Silver Diner chain here in NoVa does, or used to before they became a "farm to table" establishment.  I haven't been back since.

A coffee shop in St. Charles had it on their menu, and they made one for me once. But they weren't really good about telling the baristas how to make them. Or in any way famliarizing them with the concept. I gave up asking for them.
