Russian Oops.

Russian helicopter has a malfunction.  Stories I'm finding is the "official" report is there was an electrical short that caused the missile to fire when it shouldn't have.

Is it normal to have live weapons mounted during war games?

I believe they were actually were on a live fire range, showing off for the press and dignitaries.

"Hmm, that was way too close, so let's slowly and casually stroll over this way just in case anything that was just hit with a missile happens to blow up or something."

It appears the missile went right into the parking area for spectator vehicles. Do we know for sure that no one was hurt -- or killed?

Video description says 2 were "seriously injured."

I'm going to go with Weapons Officer hit the trigger a bit premature.  They didn't hit the radar(?) Van (Exploded on the) ground in front, and they looked like were just S-8 rockets.

Also, I'm enjoying the breathless reporting of 13,000 Russian troops participating in the exercise.  That's about a Division's worth.  Back in the bad old days, during REFORGERs, we would have anywhere from six to nine+ US Divisions, plus at least two West German Divisions, a Brit or two, Dutch, Belgian, and every third year or so, the 4th Canadian Mech Brigade.  Figure anywhere from 300,000-500,000+ troops roaming around the West German countryside all loaded for Bear.  (Yes, everyone carried their basic load of "Warshots", just in case Ivan thought he'd be sneaky.)
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.
Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.

Word I'm hearing from a friendly acquaintance in Estonia is that the Russians are math-challenged -- apparently that "13,000" is a lot closer to 100,000+
