It's not a gun problem, it's a mental health problem
« on: November 09, 2017, 08:12:30 PM »
So saeth our President.

Here's a psychiatrist who says otherwise: https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2017/11/09/texas-shooting-mental-health-donald-trump-215807

I'm sure he's not alone. In reading his treatise, I am forced to conclude that (a) he doesn't want to have anyone suggest that he should in any way be in a position to spot potential killers; and (b) he hates guns. Note how often he refers to "gun" violence. Surely there are other forms of violence that are equally destructive. Nut cases kill people with bombs, axes, chain saws, matches (and gasoline), cars -- you name it. Yet all he can focus on is "gun" violence.

We need to be aware that these people are out there, and that they are going to be actively promoting "gun violence" as the problem, while working to divert attention away from the larger, mental health aspect.

Another Trump was right. Call him insightful or an idiot savant, but he was right. Says it's a mental health problem, entire mediasphere goes all argly bargly and two days later we get the escaped mental treatment facility bit. Oops.

I'm so contrarian that I didn't respond to the thread.

Plus the doctor who ran the joint saying the guy was a danger to humanity.

It would be a mental health problem if the guy who was supposed to forward the conviction information from AF to FBI didn't do it because of a schizophrenic delusion. Or, if the guards in the mental institution were off theior meds.

As it is, it's a people not doing their jobs problem.

Political tags - such as royalist, communist, democrat, populist, fascist, liberal, conservative, and so forth - are never basic criteria. The human race divides politically into those who want people to be controlled and those who have no such desire.

My own response -

Mr. Luckovich:

Your cartoon is a base libel, and here is why.

If you truly believed it was true?  You wouldn't DARE post it, or any of the other similar cartoons you've scribbled over the years, for fear of being executed one dark night by the group you like to claim is worse than Al Qaeda or ISIS.  You *RELY* on our being civilized, rational, peaceful folks to keep you from having to censor your free speech out of self-protection.  On our defending your right to be a hateful, intolerant prick trying to take away the rights of all the people who never did anything wrong in their LIVES.

Must be nice, being able to call people bloodthirsty moron monsters, being able to say all the mean-spirited, hateful, fact-free things you want to about people whose only "crime" is not agreeing with you, and being able to sleep soundly at night because you KNOW we'll never do any of the things you routinely accuse of us doing, because we're better people than you are.

You're a pig.  And even that relatively mild assessment does those simple animals a gross injustice.

Another in-kind donation to the Trump 2020 campaign...
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.
Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.
