Anyone ever paint furniture with chalk paint?

I've got a couple of pieces that really need a tune up. They're nothing special, and refinishing them with a natural wood finish/stain would be a monumental investment in time.

Chalk paint seems to be a good alternative.

There are a bunch of vessels and piping painted with something around here that sure seems like chalk sometimes.  Comes off on your clothes.  Works well as long as it is intact.  Bare metal rusts quickly near the coast down here.

I doubt this is at all what you are looking for.  Just trying to be helpful.   grin

"This observation, also, I have laid to heart, that they, who in matters of war seek in all ways to save their lives, are just they who, as a rule, die dishonorably; whereas they who, recognizing that death is the common lot and destiny of all men, strive hard to die nobly: these more frequently, as I observe, do after all attain to old age, or, at any rate, while life lasts, they spend their days more happily."  Xenophon

Try harder.

I think that explains what I'm looking at doing quite well.

Literacy. Wasted on you Iowiggians.

It's the time factor. I don't want to spend a lot of time on pieces that aren't anything special. But, if I were to paint them with either an oil or a latex paint, I'd still have to do a shitpot load of sanding and surface prep.

With chalk paint you can paint right over varnish and it will hold. That cuts prep time by probably 50 to 75 percent.

To put it in terms that I think even you would understand...

Time spent on extensive surface prep is time I'm not spending playing with Seren.

I've never used chalk paint, because everything I seen painted with it, looks like it came from a flea market repurpose.

Probably because I have sat through too many HGTV shows when my wife beats me to the TV. Plus it gives me flashbacks to the New England farmhouse look that was popular in the 1980s.

I thought everything in Iowa was a *expletive deleted*ing farmhouse, surrounded by acres and acres of corwheaoatbarsoybeans.

Oh, and pot. Lots of pot.

And given what they look like right now, it would actually be something of a step up for them.
