ANyone else hear this
« on: February 15, 2018, 07:21:49 PM »
E-mail today from the Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA) about 86,000 M1's coming back from Turkey and 13,000 coming back from the Philippines??
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.
Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.

It's news to me. Good news if true, but I haven't encountered it.

Carbines, Garands, or Abrams?

Or all three?

(I know from the numbers involved, but new readers might not.)

I'm in for a rifle and carbine,  but the tanker guys stationed down the road said the Abrams was *expletive deleted*it.

It's probably better than your tank, though.

From the relevant part of the ISRA e-mail:

Quote
Executive Directors Message

The CMP has begun receiving some of the 8000 1911s in their first allocation.  It will take some time to inventory them all and get them ready for sale.  For years, the Obama Administration refused to allow the M1 Garands and M1 Carbines that were loaned to other countries, back into the United States.  All of that has changed with President Donald Trump.  Aside from the 1911s, the CMP has also started receiving the first of 86,000 M1s from Turkey.  Another 13,000 which were loaned to the Philippines should be on the way soon.  So far, they have not discovered any special markings on the Turkish rifles so they can’t be differentiated from any other M1s.  It would be nice to get the M1 matches reinvigorated again.  That may be possible with the new influx of M1 rifles.

Wasn't there already rumors about this like a year or so ago? And that dealers are supposed to get first pick or something?

???

I'm bettin' the Executive Director's message will soon be rewritten for clarity.  I thought we lended M1 Carbines to the Philippines and South Korea because smaller-statured folk had difficulty handling the M1 rifle, the Garand.

I realize the initial information was probably muddy anyhow.
