It looks like I'm in the market for a new GPS

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-5329405/TomTom-scraps-lifetimesupport-map-updates.html

TomTom has announced that they are ending map updates for many of their devices -- mine included. So much for "lifetime" map updates. I was able to download one update after I received the e-mail, so I guess it's a "legacy" update. I probably haven't updated since some time last year, so that might make sense.

Now I'll have to take a ride to see if a couple of the places I know were wrong -- and that I reported -- have been corrected.

So for an automotive GPS, who is best now, Garmin or Magellan?

I started with a TomTom as my first GPS, then switched to Garmin several years ago.  I like the Garmin more than the TomTom.  Mostly a subjective judgement; I've done no tests.  I see Garmin now has a model with Alexa, Dash Cam, and Lane Departure warnings, but it's not quite up to the performance level that it will take to get me to switch.  The idea intrigues me, though.

BTW, did you know you can arrange for part of the money you spend at Amazon to be donated to NRA?  I've been signed up for that for a few years.  Just sayin'...

If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

I got my mother a Garmin nuvi 2699 for Christmas a couple years back. She seems to like it. It came with free lifetime maps and traffic updates.
