And what is the best place to shoot an alligator that is dragging you into the pond?  The head?

Shoot em in the brain. It's a primitive thing about the size of a walnut.

Give up the dogs.
Islamic sex dolls.  Do they blow themselves up?

Some quote from Dr. Watson comes to mind here.  "No... something, Sherlock."

I hope they don't send in divers to look for the body.  Which is probably safely hidden under something.

Reach inside the thing's mouth and shoot into the upper palate.  Don't worry about your arm,  because it's already got your leg.  Use whatever caliber you have, as the 'gator is unlikely to allow you to go buy a .50BMG caliber weapon.

Living in Seattle, my experience with alligators is limited.  Are they fast moving?  Can one spring out of the water, snatch you and drag you in before you can react?

Gators can be very quick,  for short distances.   If you get too close that distance will be short enough that you won't be fast enough to escape.
For further edification,  watch any Jurassic Park movie.
