Romeo y Julieta
« on: June 22, 2018, 10:37:53 PM »
We're at a performance of Romeo and Juliet tonight, and after they gave the announcement about how the play is about to begin, shut off your phones, etc, they repeated it in Spanish. And then again, when they announced that intermission was almost over. So I'm wondering who these people are, going to see a play in Elizabethan English, but they can't understand a simple announcement. Curious.

*shrug* Considering that most of your average English speaking Americans can't understand Elizabethan English...

Then again, I doubt most of them would be going to see much Shakespeare...

I always thought Andy Griffins soliloquy on Romeo and Juliet was the best.

Probably not. The St. Louis Shakespeare Festival mounts a play in Forest Park every year, and they bring in their own equipment. I don't recall hearing the Spanish translation in the many previous years I've been there.

The actual problem with the play was Romeo, though.  =(
