Based on the 10-month spread between this report and last year’s, the overall numbers of NFA regulated items peaked at 5.5 million, up from 5.2 million in 2017 and 4.4 in 2016. The largest increase in the data came from an additional 129,768 suppressors added to the NFRTR for a total of 1,489,791 silencers carried on the list, a jump of some 10 percent over last year’s figures.
I came across this link that had numbers on suppressors and other NFA items.  I hadn't noticed that information before.

Let's not forget that the little old $200 tax stamp for suppressors (Silencers) was supposed to be prohibitive taxation back in the day.

Had that law kept up with inflation, it would have been about $2400 today --still pretty prohibitive.  But it stayed the same and $200 today is like merely one fill up of a big rec vehicle.

So we survived tax cuts and the end of net neutrality, only to be victims of the Suppressormageddon.

From what I've read, you could get a new car for about $500 back in the early 1930s. So 40% of the cost for a decent set of wheels. Prohibitive indeed.

if it were 1.5 million unpapered 'oil filter adapters' or 1.5 million home made drop-in autosears, the BATFE wouldn't be able to do anything about them...

As I learned in my travels around the world in some places they are called softenboomers when properly used on the loudenboomers.

And I suppose you prefer "the thing that goes up" over "the device that elevates"?

Heard this mentioned on The Gun Collective.  I didn't think to check the link to the report in the article.
Notable factoids:
1.  Austria leads import numbers mostly in pistols.  (Wonder what they are importing?  =) )
2.  Texas leads state by state numbers in total registered weapons and the suppressor category.  Florida and California are next up in total numbers. Virginia is near the top.
3.  California leads in destructive devices.
4.  Florida leads in numbers of machine guns.  Texas is second, but Connecticut is right there with them which I wouldn't have expected.

What is covered by destructive devices?  Is that large caliber weapons?

Sledge Hammer reminds me of "Fearless Fosdick," a character of Al Capp.

Note the gun.  I never figured out whether Capp did the gun that way for fun or did he really think they looked like that.

Yes, "nonsporting" firearms over .50 caliber (rocket launcher, 40mm genande launchers, and, stupidly a couple of 12 gauge shotguns like the street sweeper).  Also bombs.

Weird that CA has so many registered DD- I'm guessing it is police 40mm launchers, plus movie prop folks (the only ones in CA allowed to most evil NFA stuff)
