A man with a concealed-carry license was commended for coming to the aid of Cicero police who were engaged in a shootout with a man who shot and wounded an officer near the Stevenson Expressway, authorities said. @mitchtrout and @MHendricksonCST report.https://t.co/qjsYVB0AHr

Kudos.

Glad the cops didn't mistake him for a dangerous person and shoot him.

Not holding my breath for CNN, MSNBC, et al to run the story.  Doesn't fit their narrative.

Really?

So the guy had a machine gun in his car?

well the reporter said there was an automatic weapon.  Probably not.  Getting into an active firefight is a good way to get your self killed.  You are fair game to the criminal and the cops.
I'd call 911,  and let 'em go at it.

Glad this worked out OK, and of course I wasn't there and don't know the exact circumstances, but as a general principle I'd be very reluctant to get involved in a shootout that police were already engaged in.

The ONLY ways I would get involved in an active shootout that already had cops involved were if the officers were already down, or if there was some certain way I could ID myself to the cops before triggertime.

1.  Automatic weapons are illegal in Illinois.  (Same with suppressors and any other fun toys.)  Chances are the reporter (and editor) are idiots, because I really doubt that a CCW holder was simply waling around with at full auto whatever strapped to his hip.

2. One of the Cicero officer was hit four times by the bad guy.  The CCW holder is a real hero for jumping in and helping to end the threat.

It's the bad guy who allegedly had an automatic weapon.

Cicero is cook county and sorta like the bad part of Chicago just outside of Chicago. Therefor neither police nor news reporters know anything about guns except they are all bad and some are more bad than others. Automatic? I doubt it but they don't know the difference and it fits the narrative.
Glad the CCL is ok and not incarcerated. I'm sure some SA and police brass considered it.

Yes. The article said "the suspect." An automatic weapon is a machine gun. Do you believe that some dude they pulled over for a traffic stop really had a full-auto machine gun in his car? I don't.

It might have been fully semi-automatic... ;/ ;/

It's possible it could of been an actual automatic firearm, obviously illegally owned. But according to the comments, someone mentioned that another article said it was a semi-auto Glock with an extended mag.

Big Media said a semi-automatic with a bump-stick is no different than a full-auto. Maybe that's what it was.
