CNN is starting to give early election results for Texas...
« on: November 06, 2018, 08:11:38 PM »
and the polls are still open in El Paso.  Not sure if they are stupid, or if they are trying to influence the outcome.  (I know those are not mutually exclusive)

Out of all the elections going on today, I think I'm going to be most shocked if "Beto" wins in Texas. He's slightly ahead right now with 40% of the votes in.  I didn't think that one would even be close.

I have CNN on and they said Beto is ahead, but it's very very early and said it probably won't got Beto's way.

Right now, 7:35CT, CNN has O'Rourke 53.1% to Cruz 46.2%.  And by their map it's less than 50% reporting.

I expect that to change by 180*.  I can't see Cruz loosing in TX.

ETA:  And they've got Allred ahead of Sessions.  Yeh, right.

9:38 and Fox News has Cruz at 50.1% and O'Rourke at 49.3%.

Stay tuned ...  [popcorn]

The polls close at 7:00 local time.  El Paso is in the Mountain time zone.

Houston area polls stayed open an extra hour because some stations didn't open on time. So that precinct will probably report later than usual.

ETA: 538 says Cruz has 97% chance.

“Fear of death increases in exact proportion to increase in wealth,” Hemingway once said. Today, many of us have become rich in the currency of cowardice. We have so many things and so few experiences. We are desperate to live as long as possible, not as large as possible. We are so afraid to say goodbye to the world that we never say hello.

Fox is calling it for Cruz, but it certainly wasn't the blowout that many people expected.

Doesn't really matter. A win is a win, and if Cruz wins ... Beto loses.

The votes were a heck of a lot closer than either side thought they would be.  Beto poured a lot of money into his capaign and got results.  He also got a low of leftists registered to vote.  That will pay off for them in the future.  A lot of Texas races were closer that most expected.  It's not a good sign.

I heard an interview with Cruz from a few days ago where he was expecting a close finish.  He pointed to a lot of new people moving in and recent elections appearing to trend that way.

a low of leftists

Oh good; we've been needing an appropriate collective term for those.

Maybe it was a Freudian typo.  I meant to type "lot".

On the way home from working the polls yesterday, listening to WLS, one of the commentators was talking about the Beto- Cruz race (Too close to call at the time) state that Ted Cruz, "lousy senate candidate, great supreme court justice."

I totally agree.

My only response is:  compared to what?  He is better than John Cornyn and the R he beat out in his first election was a Jeb Bush wannabe.

I do think he would make a good SC choice.  I am not sure which would make leftist heads explode more.  Appointing Cruz or Amy Coney Barrett.  Hopefully Pres Trump has the opportunity for both.

I think it's just a criticism of Cruz's skill as a campaigner.
