Ipad, wipe to factory

Hive mind, I need ye.

We have an iPad needing a reset. Not power, but a full blown back-to-factory reset.

It's a department turn-in that no one remembers the passcode for. I refuse to put iTunes on anything so using it is out. Is there a simple way to brute force a quick reset to factory or am I relegated to using the "enter wrong passcode multiple times and wait for the 1 min, 5 min, 30 min, 1 hr, and 24 hr delay" reset method?

There is an option to do just that under Settings, General, IIRC.

I've been to one once, fruity apple cult atmosphere aside, the techs that worked on my stuff were extremely knowledgeable.

Can't get there. Need the passcode to get past the lock screen and no one in the department remembers it.

Look around very very carefully for a teeny tiny hole.  Obtain a paper clip, unbend it, and insert it in the hole.

Sometimes there's a hole, sometimes there ain't.  Sometimes if's a reset, sometimes it ain't.

And remember.  If it don't work, you can't break it.

I reached out to a friend who is somewhat of an Apple guru. He said there is no way to reset it short of replacing the motherboard.

That said, if the FBI can break into an iPhone, there must be a way to break into an iPad ... the question remains: How?

I got it to the point that it's completely locked and will accept a reload/refresh. Unfortunately that required iTunes and I don't want that invasive pile of steaming fecal matter anywhere near my machine.

Whatever... it's a 2012 model so likely will have only extremely limited viability in terms of our needs. Because of that it would probably end up doing little more than sitting in my spares closet as a last-resort stopgap loaner. I already have several of those so it's not worth the time needed to progress further. I'm surplussing it and going on to more productive things.

If there isn't a hole, you can drill one, just like the headphone jack in the iphone.

Not mentioned in the video is that you can drill whichever corner you prefer to get the same result.
