Modifications and updates to elevators are generally exclusively good things. But the addition of buttons reading "Riot" inside several at a Sacramento state building prompted frightened and confused reactions from employees working there.As KOVR reported, the workers weren't given a warning as to why the buttons needed to be installed in elevators at the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration Building by the State Department of General Services, which manages the property....Their purpose, as the Department of General Services later outlined, is reportedly to light up to inform riders the elevators will not stop at the first floor in the event of an emergency, like a riot or violent protest. A department spokesperson, however, acknowledged that the term "Riot" may have been confusing, and says they are altering the term on the button.
While the installation of a button reading "Riot" is unusual, an elevator having a "riot mode" is not. The lift feature is meant to bypass lobby or lower floors to prohibit those on the ground level from accessing other parts of the building in the event of civil disturbances.
So are they going to put barricades in the stairwells, too?At first, I thought it meant the elevators would automatically go down to the basement so employees could get out via the tunnel system. Or the parking garage. Or something.Are SF City employees allowed to smoke pot while on duty? Your average rioter would likely never consider using the stairs.
Considering the fact it's California I'm surprised they don't have a MAGA panic button.

When the button is activated, is there a aural warning? If not, that would make it a quiet riot.

Shouldn't there be buttons for plague, locusts, fire, Amway sales people, cross-dimensional vortexes, and bad BBQ?
