Need Help Finding a Magazine Pouch
« on: March 20, 2019, 05:42:06 PM »
I'm having the darndest time finding a single mag pouch to fit a H&K USP .45 (full size) magazine.  I used a generic Uncle Mike's velcro flap pouch for years, which fit everything from Makarov mags to double-stack Glock 9/.40.  The USP mag fits, but just barely, and as the velcro has become worn the flap no longer stays closed.

I've been perusing Midway USA, et cetera, and can't find a pouch that fits my criteria.  I mean, I see a lot of possibles but can't confirm (through the reviews or otherwise) that they'll fit.  Galco makes one that will probably work but it's $55.  Oof.  So, I'm looking for a Cordura nylon flap pouch with a velcro or snap closure that has a normal belt loop attachment.  I don't want MOLLE straps as the pouch would sit too low on my belt line.

Does anyone know of a single mag pouch that will for sure fit a USP .45 mag that fits this description for less than $55?

I would suggest taking a mag to a gun store and trying on clothes, as it were.

I would also suggest checking out the not gun stuff, like paintball gear.

I have had great success with TACO pouches. Mine fit a wide variety of mags from usp.40, M9 18rds, P226, BHP, pretty much any double stack mag I stuff in there. I wear them on my belt for pistol matches and on my plate carrier while deployed.

They ain't cheap, but they ain't $55.  ~$30 will get you a single pistol pouch. $40 if you gotta have a flap.  I don't use the flapped ones, I just cinch down the retention.

Perhaps an online police supply place would have what you need.

What are the cross-sectional width and depth of the H&K magazine? How does it compare with a Para-Ordnance or Browning Hi-Power magazine?

Back when I had a .45 USP I think I recall mags being pretty similar in size to Glock 21 magazines so something geared toward those might work.

Of course, replacing Velcro isn’t particularly hard or expensive either.

Just serendipitous, but I found a NEBO flashlight pouch worked well with my CW9 spare mag.

Discovered it because of my gozinta complex:  "I wonder if this gozinta that?"  Always trying to fit one thing into another.

Over the years the fit got a little sloppy, so I added a bicycle inner tube elastic.  There's a belt clip on the back, too.

Thank you for all the suggestions so far!

What are the cross-sectional width and depth of the H&K magazine? How does it compare with a Para-Ordnance or Browning Hi-Power magazine?

LxWxH  5.25"x1.75"x0.875"

Larger than both a Beretta 92FS and Glock 22.  Don't own a Para-Ordnance.

Man, those puppies are FAT! I measured a Para P12.45 magazine. The cross-sectional dimensions are 0.960" x 1.355". If the H&K mags are 4/10ths of an inch fatter, I don't see how anyone smaller than Godzilla could possibly hold the gun.
