Sportsball silliness
« on: March 21, 2019, 03:34:43 PM »
I've never done a bracket before, but one of our vendors invited us to fill them out online. Like all experienced sportsball fans, I used the time-tested Alphabetical Method. So far, I'm one for one. LSU beat Yale, but Louisville somehow lost to Minnesota, despite its alphabetical advantage. A real upset, that one.

But Abilene Christian's going all the way, baby! All the way!

Actually most of us here are actually amazed Louisville even made it into the tournament this year considering the mess that Pitino left.
To add insult to injury Minnesota is coached by Rick Pitino's son Richard
Oh well. Come on Kentucky

Sorry, bud, but they're coming up against Arizona State. That's Arizona. With an A.

Fistful, you impress me. Your sportzball acumen is great. I shall now direct all my sportzballing questions to you, for clearly you are an expert on the matter.

Not to brag, but I am currently 3 for 1 on the sportsball bracket. Clearly, my sportsball system works goodly well. Jonah Hill will portray me in the feature film.

They are both the Wildcats so that may have confused the alphabetical model.

All I know or care is that the BOK center is hosting games starting today. I'm less than a mile.from there and traffic is going to be *expletive deleted*ed this afternoon getting the hell out of this shithole downtown area.

I sorted them based on the names used at www.runyourpool.com. However it appeared in the bracket, that's what I used.

Yes, something does seem to be amiss. I worry the Russians may be inflating points for the alphabetically inferior teams. Perhaps their Cyrillic letters are at work here. Once n's starting looking like h's, who knows what sort of devilment might be in store?!

Mueller will get right on it. He'll have a report ready sometime around 2075

Shockingly, my standing in the pool is 707 out of 709 entries (there's no 708, yet, as there are two of us in 707th place). The lesson is clear: I should have gone with inverse alphabetical order. Oh, well - next year.

With a total of 45 points, I am now in uncontested last place, out of 709 entries in the pool. With the final game coming down to Texas Tech vs. Virginia, and Virginia as the victor, there is clearly a flaw somewhere in my carefully-constructed, and ostensibly flawless system. I guess it's back to the lab.

Yeah, but what a game. Both teams played a heckuva season.

No, I believe that would have resulted in Yale v Woford being the final game. Clearly, there's something very sinister at work here.

No, it's simply a matter of you have to flip the system each round.

1st Round- reverse alphabetical
2nd round- alphabetical
3rd round- reverse alphabetical
4th round- alphabetical
5th round- reverse alphabetical
6th round- reverse alphabetical (it's a tricky one, you have to realize that the system flips here.)
I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought
