I just now read this and found out that earlier today, I was a racist. I gave a thumbs up to a black Best Buy employee who told me he was getting a key to open a display case for an item I wanted to buy. Oops - I guess that was not OK.

Since Disney doesn't want to sell it anymore, I found myself a nice digital bootleg of Song of the South since I haven't seen it since I was probably 6 years old.  I about choked at the tarbaby bit.  And the plantation owner lady squarely putting ol' Uncle Remus in his place.

Anyway, this sort of gestural nonsense has been going on for a while, although in Bush's case, it really WAS due to cultural differences, rather than Bush Derangement Syndrome.

I've mentioned this before, but where I come from (NYC 1950s) that index-finger, pinky-finger-upraised gesture meant "the horns," meaning your spouse is unfaithful, or another bad thing is about to gore you.
