Victims of Communism Day 2019

Quote
May Day began as a holiday for socialists and labor union activists, not just communists. But over time, the date was taken over by the Soviet Union and other communist regimes and used as a propaganda tool to prop up their [authority]. I suggest that we instead use it as a day to commemorate those regimes' millions of victims. The authoritative Black Book of Communism estimates the total at 80 to 100 million dead, greater than that caused by all other twentieth century tyrannies combined. We appropriately have a Holocaust Memorial Day. It is equally appropriate to commemorate the victims of the twentieth century's other great totalitarian tyranny. And May Day is the most fitting day to do so….

This has made the rounds many times, but it's appropriate:

For general reference.

"Absolute power corrupts absolutely."

And they can't get absolute power with an armed populace, since "political power grows from the muzzle of a gun."

Note "Civilians Killed" column, especially for the Soviet Union.

It is very difficult for the labouring people, who have been deceived and intimidated by the reactionary ruling classes for thousands of years, to awaken to the importance of having guns in their own hands.

Venezuela is one such example.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

Rather than start another thread, I'll leave this little tidbit here:

I heard on Fox Business this morning (though I can't remember the exact numbers, but I think only 40% in the US) that currently, more people are pro-capitalism, in China than in the USA. That's kind of a scary and backwards world thought.

Someone around here (not myself) observed that modern youth thinks history began yesterday.
