The Navy and the Marines can't fly the F-35 at speed because the stealthy paint blisters, and the tail starts to fall apart. Great.

Looks like an issue only in extreme cases.

I'm not a fan of the F-35, but I don't think this issue is a big deal.

A couple or so of the first F-14 Tomcats shot themselves down with their Phoenix missiles,  but the problem was corrected  and the Tomcat had a respectable service life.

But the F-35 ..... do we need the variants?   And its budget has taken off at Mach speeds and remained intact and unpeeled.

The Blackhawk was often called the Crashhawk because of the problems it had initially.  Same with the V-22 Osprey.   All complex systems have "teething" problems at the beginning of their deployment into the service.   Same with the V-22.  They'll come up with a  fix for this.

While I agree that "All-purpose = sucks at everything", I don't think this is that big of an issue.

The F/A18 had its share of teething problems also, especially in the early years but eventually it went from crawling to walking and then running and has turned into a reasonably nice airframe from what I have heard. Smiley

The blistering paint isn't a huge deal. The structural degradation of the tail feathers, on the other hand ...
