Flying the Mexican Flag

I'm sure my opinion means "Ben is a white supremacist", but here we go again:

This always bugs the crap out of me. The optics to me are the protestors saying one thing and doing another. It makes it not about immigration, but about race and nationality. I suppose it especially irks me because I come from an immigrant family. You don't see me waving the kraut flag around yelling 'Viva Fatherland!".

It again shows these people don't want to come to the US, they want the US to cede to their demands and culture. I really don't see this with any other immigrant groups. It's also both funny and telling that as we are getting a horde coming in from Central America, it's the Mexican flag that flies.

Anyway, anytime I see the Mexican flag flying regarding immigration issues or protests, I automatically dismiss anything that group says. They lose me the second that the foreign flag flies.

There are very large immigrant groups where I live.

Large Polish, Indian, Filipino and of course Mexican populations.

The Poles and Mexicans still have a lot of pride and devotion to their homelands often expressed by flags or sticker flags on vehicles and sometimes their houses.

It does seem related to how long they’ve been citizens and how assimilated they’ve become.

The immigration issue isn’t really one issue, it’s multiple issues.

I’m with you though. If you are petitioning the US government for citizenship I would think the least you could do is pretend to like America.

Seems the norm from south of our non-border is to want to come to America, even though they don’t like America(cans).

In the end we ALL come from immigrant families in this hemisphere.  Some are just more recent than others.

Hoist the colors of one sovereign nation in the recognized territory of another?  Fine, rip down the Mexican flag and raise this one, let the ADL go frell themselves long & hard.

This doesn't bother me at all. A sticker on a car window, a flag at a house (though I prefer it be flown under an American flag), an "I'm a kraut" or "I'm a pollack" t-shirt - no problems here. To me, this is just part of our melting pot acknowledging and enjoying their heritage as part of the American experience.

But as you say, if you are getting political, or asking for "asylum", but you, in some kind of protest, fly the flag of the country you supposedly want to LEAVE for the opportunity that is America? Drop dead and go to hell.

The symbolism of flying both flags with the American flag in preeminence would make for far better optics than just the Mexican flag.

They need better marketing.

Personally, I believe all immigration needs to come to a slow trickle so we can assimilate.

Regardless of where they are coming from or what race/ethnicity they are, immigrant populations are voting leftist by large majorities.

Protesting carrying whatever flag you want, use your first amendment rights, but don't expect to be taken seriously if you are wanting to become a citizen of the nation you protesting while flying the flag of the country you are coming from.
