Journalist fired for writing the truth
« on: January 20, 2020, 06:11:51 PM »
https://freebeacon.com/politics/denver-post-columnist-fired-after-arguing-there-are-two-sexes/

A Denver Post journalist says he was fired because he wrote that there are only two sexes, determined by XX or XY chromosomes.

Quote
Caldara criticized an Associated Press directive saying that sex and gender are not binary. "There are only two sexes, identified by an XX or XY chromosome. That is the very definition of binary. The AP ruling it isn’t so doesn’t change science. It’s a premeditative attempt to change culture and policy. It’s activism," he wrote on Jan. 3. In a column two weeks later, Caldara also railed against a 2019 Colorado law that required elementary school children to be instructed in transgender ideology.

It's only a matter of time, folks. Science is dead -- it's all about the feelz now.

You know, it's really odd...

People who are screaming that science can't be questioned because it's science when it comes to climate change are the same ones who are screaming that science is absolutely wrong when it comes to gender...

Point that out to them, though and they lose what's left of their minds.

What they actually tend to do is produce science that supports their viewpoint on subject "x".

There's enough variation in the universe one can normally find some evidence of anything.

You forgot the quotation marks around "science."

It's only a matter of time before someone decides that saying the earth revolves around the sun and is generally globular rather than flat constitutes heresy . . .

You forgot the quotation marks around "science."

You forgot that perfectly valid science can lead to erroneous conclusions.

Though all too often nowadays, many "scientists" seem to have forgotten the null hypothesis*.

Good science is setting out to disprove the null hypothesis. Too many modern scientists, especially "climate" scientists who are that in name only, seem to want to prove the hypothesis, which leads to lots of erroneous conclusions.

*That is, in essence, if the hypothesis is that "humans are directly responsible for climate change, the null hypothesis is that humans are not directly responsible for climate change. A good scientist who hypothesizes the former tries to prove the latter in an unbiased manner.

Good science is about trying your damnedest to prove something wrong, and when you have tried everything, you end up with theory (or law) that something is, in fact, right.

Absolutely true, Ben.

Although, as I get older I wonder how much of that is "nowadays" really.  How many scientists names are lost to the mists of history because they spen their entire lives proving over and over again that their patron's pet ideas on lead in to gold were settled science, and just need a little more work to lock in.

Perhaps I'm getting cynical.

Doesn't matter what side of the aisle you are on, there are people to quickly discredit science if it doesn't fit their way of thinking.

One that is that is bothering me is the whole wolves in the lower 48 issue. Scientists determined a what a recovered population is to delist the wolves and possibly allow hunting, people who don't want the wolves hunted are challenging in court what was agreed on scientifically as a recovered wolf population, from feels and not the data.
