And that air conditioner is not mounted flush and square, either.

Not uncommon to see a window shaker at that kind of angle. It can be tough to get one into the window opening and get it square. To a large degree, though, it doesn't really matter if it's tipping some. Just makes it a bit harder to seal around it.

As for mounted flush, not sure what you mean by that.

Are we talking about how the AC units are angled down toward the back? That's so condensation goes outside.

He did ... until his two favorite employees were fired.

Window shakers can be installed so that they are level with no issues. Many of them actually use condensation pan splash onto the coils to help the cooling exchange.

OK. I've installed a few lately, and the instructions recommended a slantedness. YMMV, but I think a backward cant is usually recommended. Depends on the model you're working with, of course.

OK. I've installed a few lately, and they all recommend a slantedness.

Why not just build them to work correctly when level?? Slantedness  looks sloppy .

Been a long time since I've installed a window AC and actually looked at the instructions... I remember the one I put in my apartment in Washington, DC, actually had a platform that you had to assemble that it would rest on and that kept it level, but that was largely because it was for a casement window and it needed the platform for support.

The ones I put in my Mom's house... I just threw them in the windows, and if they were level, great. If they slanted a bit, great. I didn't much care, as long as they didn't drop out the window and go through the porch roof.

What you do NOT want, however, is them pitching towards the interior of the house. They do that and you'll start throwing condensate back into the house through the vents.

I would prefer them to anchovies.  Yuck.

The roof vent and AC unit probably match the occupant whose bubble is a bit off level.
