Well, crap (COVID)
« on: December 03, 2020, 01:11:00 AM »
Looks like both my parents may have come down with the 'rona.

Friend of theirs came over Saturday, everyone wearing a mask, Sunday he and his wife started feeling sick, both tested positive. Mom got a rapid test yesterday, that one was negative, but today both of them are symptomatic. Dad is in so many high risk categories it's not even funny, he's heading to the ER now with shortness of breath, fever, weakness and fatigue.

So if you wouldn't mind sending up a prayer, positive thoughts, or whatever, my family and I would appreciate it.

Prayers sent. I'm on the tail end of my infection, and it wasn't  good time.

Prayers sent.

[Edit] Misunderstood the situation.

Being at high risk myself, for multiple factors, I am sympathetic. Your parents' experience just reinforces for me my decision to self-isolate in extremis.

Prayers sent;   I hope both your parents recover.   Remember that they know a lot more about treating it and have better therapeutics now than when this started.   ;)

Prayers sent. Both my parents are in multiple high risk categories so we're being extremely cautious as well.

Good energy sent their way.

My last outings from the apartment was 10 days ago for provender and three days before that when two LEOs knocked on my door at 10:30 PM MST  Someone had sent in a welfare check request.

I mentioned previously that I check temp frequently with an IR thermometer (forehead, ear, bottom of chin)  and there have been no upswings in °F beyond the normal diurnal variables.

Again, good energy sent their way.

Well, good news/bad news situation.

The good news is that they have both tested negative.  Mom is already feeling better compared to just yesterday.

The bad news is that Dad is in the hospital with what looks like early pneumonia.  Started on antibiotics, waiting on labs, etc.   The hospital is very full at this point, he was boarded in the ER for a while waiting for a med floor bed to get opened up.   Unfortunately the ER didn't have his meds list up, so he missed his BP meds, this morning his BP was near 200 systolic.  They got on that pretty quick once they realized they had screwed up.  Also the nurse didn't put the call button in reach for him, he ended up having to call Mom at home, and then she had to call the ER to try to get through to someone that he needed something.  He's getting dialysis in the hospital this afternoon (as opposed to his regular morning dialysis).

Other good news is that with them both testing negative (two consecutive tests on both of them) they are allowing him a visitor.  Mom is now camped in his room and she is a *very* strong advocate for his care.   Unfortunately with Dad's health they've had way too much time in the hospital but at least that means she knows the ins and outs and how to get stuff done.

^^^ That's all pretty much good news. Except for the hospitalization part, but he has an advocate (AKA PITA) which each and every hospitalized patient needs. The last time my wife was hospitalized there was a screwup that I raised hell about. By the end of the day the Assistant manager and Manager for the floor had visited with hat in hand and then along came the hospital Director of Nursing with her apologies. My wife got pretty good care after that. :)

Thanks for the update, prayers they knock the pneumonia down as quick as possible.
For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity, that they may be without excuse. Because knowing God, they didn’t glorify him as God, and didn’t give thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.

Any idea what that was about? Just that people hadn't seen you in awhile?

^ Yes, and they apparently had my wrong phone number.  And I have a sign on my door: "Day Sleeper Please Do Not Disturb." And I had been "denning up" for a couple of days.  The first knock-knock I heard, but I thought it was on the TV.

Second knocking, I peeped out and saw the two uniforms out there.  They said they just got vague information from Dispatch, asked a couple of ID questions without requesting documentation.  No big deal, I opened the door with a gun behind it in my right hand, but parked it as soon as they asked the right questions to indicate genuine LEOs  and then opened the door all the way. I invited them in, then thought of their germs maybe not likeing my germs and said, "Well, maybe not," and they assented.  (They were wearing black department-issued masks... I asked later.)

Just yesterday I discovered that my Medicare Insurance company had the wrong phone number for me --possible reason for the visit?

There are a couple of possibiliies as to who requested it.  Could have been one of my two angel-ladies who don't use stairs but I haven't talked to either of them.  My theory is that in general if I'm supposed to have information it will come to me automatically one way or the other.

So we'll see after social distancing starts being relaxed.  Sorry for misdirecting AmbulancDriver's thread and concern for parents, but I guess it's just part of the whole Covid-19 ball of wax.

Thank you everyone for your prayers and thoughts.  Dad was discharged Sunday back home, is feeling much better now.   They both continue to test negative for COVID, so looks like a really crazy coincidence and timing.

Great news!

I'm about ready to start licking doorknobs and just get it over with, one way or another.
