Title: Carnage... Mayhem... Truck Crash Pictures!
Post by: spinr on March 04, 2005, 04:20:32 PM
Nitro powered RC truck that is...

My best bud' got a Traxxas Revo not too long ago and we took it out for a spin the other day.  I decided to use it as a learning opportunity to get more familar with my new camera too.

Here's some of the better shots.

Catchin' some air...

Which eventually lead to this series of three photos.  Weak stomachs look away...

It missed the small boulder my camera bag was sitting on by inches.

Few more...

This little thing is a hoot.  I'm seriously considering one for myself.  Not cheap, but it's so awesome I've gotta have one.

 Cool

Pics look pretty good.

Looks like fun to "drive" one of those around too!

How much does it cost to own, operate and maintain one of those anyways?

I guess the pics are okay.  A bit much noise I think.  And it's hard to keep that truck in frame, it's bookin' along so fast.  I was playing around with the sports setting so I could see how well the AI servo operates.  It does pretty good, but I have to sacrifice being able to adjust some of the settings like the ISO which the camera automatically sets in that mode, and which is mostly to blame for the noise.

I think I need to do the hack on this Rebel or upgrade soon...  Tongue   Wink

Anyway, the truck comes in a ready to run kit, complete with most everything you need; you just have to add some batteries for the controller and fuel for the truck.  The truck itself is preassembled, but you can customize it ten ways from Sunday.

The kit costs around $450 - $500 and the fuel is about $20 for a gallon; and the controller requires 8 AA batteries.  But that's all.  Operating costs are pretty much limited to the fuel and any damage/wear replacement parts, which are actually fairly cheap.

Spin, ol' buddy, you obviously haven't bought the one accessory that truck needs...

TANNERITE!

Tannerite you say?

I like to think I'm at least a modestly creative person, but I'm having a moment. :?  What exactly would I do with an explosive compound and that truck... that wouldn't entail its' destruction?

I mean my friend might not like it if his truck got "blowed up."

 Cheesy

Pffff, he needs to quit being so selfish. Tell him to get his priorities straight - the amusement of your friends 1st, material possetions 2nd.

I was recently exposed to these spiffy little vehicles in Korea.  A lot of the army guys deployed in the area closest to the DMZ are not allowed to have personal vehicles, so there is a group of them who spend a lot of time souping up and racing these little guys.  It looks like a blast.

Thouse things are sick, I would like to get one some day but last time I looked they were a little pricey.

Murphy's Law and moveable explosives.
PM lights fuse and powers on truck.  Truck goes to full throttle and refuses input from controller.  Truck runs under PM's brand spanking new Harley at the same instant fuse runs out.

Actually Spin .. darned good efforts with the pics ... not easy to get at all ... nice.

14 years ago was dabbling in business terms with R/C cars .. the race cars as against trucks.  Tryting to sell stuff, of course - just had to race!!!  These were the electrics mostly but - pretty darned quick and a load a fun.  Now, it's R/C planes ... but they break bad when they crash!!!

Traxxas Revo, awesome truck. Was thinking about buying one, but I should fix up my poor Electric E-Maxx first after the rear shocks blew, and I should fix my electric 4-tec after the brushless motor made it crash (it did it, not me!)
