Title: Air Quality Monitor
Post by: Ben on December 06, 2018, 07:08:21 PM
I thought this was kind of a cool deal. A bit of a "fainting couch" article from the NYT:

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/11/30/style/air-quality-pollution-monitors.html

But it led me to this site:

https://www.purpleair.com/

I've had an interest in this for a while, especially living in the part of CA that I do. I've always figured there was no way for the gov sensors to get decent data on the micro level geographically, and have often wondered how bad my cousin's constant chemical spraying in his orchards was for the surrounding area particulate-wise.

I hadn't seen good sensors at a reasonable price for the "home enthusiast" before. I think I might add one of these when I set up my weather station at the new place next year.

On the side note, I wonder how difficult one of these sensors is to build? The entrepreneur that started PurpleAir seems to have a networking background and no professional engineering experience. It looks like he came up with this in his garage and appears to 3D print parts of the sensor.
