Title: I hear people label stuff in their fridge
Post by: French G. on December 23, 2018, 08:00:19 PM
OCD freaks.

I have a bunch of bacon grease and I boiled it with a bunch of water to pull the salt and trash out. Had another jar in the fridge and wanted to bring it all to heat to get any left over water out.

The stuff in the fridge was kinda fluffy since I had spooned it off the top of the water when it was cold and solidified. And when I put it in the other batch it wouldn't melt.

That's because it was some leftover cream cheese frosting I made. Doh! It did melt and float out, so I spooned it off and got the right jar.

Who has leftover frosting anyways? Next up, glazing honeybuns with lard probably.

Yeah? And? I don't see the problem.

I've never seen the need for trying to ID leftovers either.  It will turn green if I put a label  on it or if I don't.  No problem.

"Guests, like leftovers, should be thrown out after three days." - Dad.

Leftovers around here are known as tomorrow's lunch and maybe dinner.  They don't last more than a day or two.

I go through the fridge on trash day. If it's questionable I throw it out. You don't need labels if you're cleaning out the fridge every week.

I hate opening someone's fridge and it's crammed full of mostly questionable food.  [barf]

Most leftovers are kept to a dull roar by the chickens. Usually some experiment in fermentation or pickling that I am left to wonder what I done.

If it's been in the fridge so long I don't remember what it was or when I put it there, it goes in the garbage.

Labeling is for jars in the pantry.

If it's going in the freezer, it should be labeled. (It doesn't always, but it should.)

In the fridge, it will be eaten within the week or tossed.

Now, as I try to cook up the week's (or some percentage thereof) meat on the weekends, we tend to have a lot of "leftovers" in the fridge at the beginning of the week and fewer by the weekend.

I still end up finding things to throw away that have been in there far too long, despite my efforts. (Because I'll inevitably miss something on clean-out day.)
