I would imagine that folks in that area can handle drinking from that stream pretty well, having grown up there.  It's likely a water source for the village.  And I have to admit, the meat looked pretty good when it was done.  I'd try a piece after watching how he cooked it.

When vodka is a food group, you don't worry about giardia.
