Title: American Flag Recommendations?
Post by: Ben on February 27, 2021, 05:56:23 PM
For any of you that fly flags on flagpoles, do you have a flag brand you like?

It appears I can't get a flag to last more than a year. We don't get constant wind here, but when we get winds, they are a doozy. My first flag lasted from the July I got it till May of the next year before I felt it was too tattered to fly. Now the replacement just started tattering (we've had a few days of doozy winds). I can probably get another couple months out of this one, but then will need to replace it.

I fly a 3x5. Maybe even the best ones don't last long in wind and I should just expect to do yearly swaps? I'd like something not overly thick. My Gadsden flag  (a 2x4 flown below the American flag) is really thick because it is printed on both sides, so needs to be thick to prevent bleed through of the opposing image. However it is so thick that it doesn't really start to flap until the wind gets to 15mph or so.

Any recommendations are appreciated.

I use Valley Forge flags.

I fly US and Texas flags from my front porch.  My US flag is 5 years old and still doing fine.  My Texas flag had to be replaced after 4 years because it got caught on my gutter and ripped.

Thanks. That one seems to have a lot of good reviews. I'll give it a try.

That Valley Forge flag just arrived. It looks MUCH tougher than my old flag, thanks!

Now I have to find a new *expletive deleted*ing flag light. I have just gone through my second solar light that screws into the top of the pole. Both broke after big wind events. The one last year, I at least saw some plastic pieces at the foot of the pole to  clue me in. This last one was working fine, then the wind hit, and now it just isn't coming on. Might be something else, but wind is likely more than coincidental.

These stupid lights seem to all be cheaply made. The one I bought last year was twice as much as the one I bought two years ago, with no difference in longevity. I might look at one of these solar lights that clamps to pole and points up, or if I can find something strong enough that's solar, that I can just stick in the ground and point up.
